Hi Lara. Not sure if your questions was directed at me. My blood pressure is pretty normal usually around 115/76. I will have fluctuations going up around 125/85. But my blood pressure isn't usually sitting there. Still, they want me on a bp med because of the dilations.
I've never heard of metanephrine levels. What would that tell a doctor and how would that influence medication choice?

Your BP doesn't sound like it goes high enough for metanephrines to be a concern. The test is to look for conditions causing elevations in stress response hormones, conditions like pheochromocytoma or carcinoid syndrome.

Was your Metoprolol 25mg 2x a day or 12.5 x2 a day? 25mg is the lowest tablet on the market, but they can be broken in half and even have a notch to do so. Given your normal BP, that may be something to consider because it has some other benefits for the heart. The down side for me is the lowering of heart. My heart rate tends to be low which is why I am on the 12.5 morning and night and 20mg Olmesartan per day to bring it the rest of the way down. If you ever have open heart surgery or have a heart attack, you will likely need metoprolol because there isn't a substitute with all of its benefits.
