Radiation side effects lung

Hi
So I finished my treatment in April 2nd 2024 of radiation for DC.I.S.
I saw my respiralogist this past week And was informed that the radiation to
My right breast has affected my lung. I have cough variant asthma which I was diagnosed with 6 yrs ago. I had a dry cough and had to be put on an inhaler which controlled it. Since radiation I now have developed a wet cough In the last three months. My pulmonary function test that I had last month has shown a Decrease
In my lung capacity. The inhaler does not help this wet cough at night. I have to take cough syrup Twice a day. I am hoping that this does not turn into a fibrosis. The dr said it can heal on its own or get worse. Why do they tell you that the radiation won't affect your lung.
Has anyone else had this happen.

Was your DCIS located near the chest wall? I think it’s one of their concerns is that the ribs or lungs might take a hit if they are radiating close to that area. My lesion was right there near the rib on the lower outer quadrant. Now I look back and think how blithely I made the decision to not have another surgery to fix the 1 mm margin, and chose radiation. I think I’d still make the same decision - but experience is knowledge, and as much as I researched beforehand there were gaps in what I thought, and what is.

Do you mind sharing what type of radiation you had? Whole breast? Partial? hyper-fractionalized?
I had a total 30 gy, which is less than what others may have had. Mine was VMAT (volume modulated arc therapy).

Hi
My cancer was a dcis on the inner right breast. As far as the other questions I have no clue. They did show me in the Radiology room On the screen Where they were radiating and how far in. Other than that I really don't know.I didn't get anything report wise.

My treatment was given as I could go 4 wks Mon to Friday 20 treatments or 2 wks dbl treatment. I come 2 weeks. I am in Canada.I find it interesting. You guys all seem to know all the details. But they aren't given to us.I could probably call down and find out.
But I would have to pay for the report.
