Has anyone had to discontinue Zytiga due to side effects?

Posted by robertmizek @robertmizek, Dec 4 10:09am

I’m 7 months into an 18 month treatment with ORGOVYX and Zytiga. Everything has been manageable until the last few weeks when I started to experience significant dizziness and nausea. It became so bad this week that my MO is having be take a one week break and I still feel quite ill.

I was on zytiga for 11 months, then had a heart attack, so I had to stop taking it.

Parp inhibitors only work if you have BRCA1 or BRCA2 In your genetic tests. I say tests because if your hereditary or somatic test shows BRCA Then the pill will benefit you. That’s one reason people should have a somatic test when their current treatment stops working.

They do a somatic test on your blood or tissue to see what genetic issues there are with the cancer in your body.

Aside from the heart attack in the bypass I’m glad you’ve handled ADT well for two years. I was in athletic condition prior to surgery, radiation and ADT. I’ve been on ORGOVYX and Zytiga for a little over seven months now and the last month has kicked my ass.

For sure not as strong as I used to be, but still lift weights 3 times a week and walk dogs everyday. My energy level is also good, but sleep is only so-so. I'm 73, 5'10 and 150#.

I was on Zytiga for several months when I noticed a shortness of breath. It started out in small increments, and within a week I felt like I was suffocating.
I called my nurse, and told her what was happening, and that I would no longer be using Zytiga. She told me she completely understood my decision.
I eventually moved on to Orgovyx, and Xtandi.
You’re not alone my friend. I wish you the very best in your options to deal with this problem.

Not really. If you have gone two or three years Without it failing, then switching over is usually more successful. You know when it fails because your PSA rises

REPLY

Yes PSA rises so maybe ask for Darolutamide then
