Reclast side effects

Posted by dingus @dingus, Aug 15 2:24pm

Does anyone have a solution to combat Reclast side effects. I had the infusion a year and a half ago and the side effects started shortly after I had the infusion. I still have weak legs, swelling in feet, pain in bones, dizziness (serious dizziness), cold sweats, tired all the time and nervous twitching in bones. Any suggestions?

dingus,
This is not true for all of us. I had zero side effects from Reclast.
Is it a gamble? Of course. Everyone is different.

That’s very encouraging.

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing that and you are not crazy. Not sure why some doctors are still hesitant to indicate the connection.

I am glad (not for your pain) to see I am not crazy as my leg pain also comes and goes-maybe a week at a time then, like a switch, almost feels normal again. Sometimes for a reason such as an activity or overuse but sometimes no reason at all. It, too, keeps me awake and feels like a deep pain/aching. I have had this when I took Fosamax in 2008 so stopped it but took a chance on Reclast. I had one dose and will not take another when due late January. I will see how long it lasts.

I had my Reclast infusion 3 weeks ago and I'm still feeling the pain of side effects. I'm still on Claritin and taking ibuprofen and Tylenol arthritis. If I don't I ache so bad. Saw my NP yesterday and they felt so bad that no one told me about the Claritin. I informed them I will not be doing another Reclast infusion. So when my year comes due I'll be on fosamax. It to has side effects but sounds like they only last till your body adjusts to the meds. I will be on Claritin for another month. I hope that does the trick. Living in joint pain is the worst.

@linda1974 I am curious about the use of Claritin in your situation. Does your doctor tell you that you are having an allergic reaction? I have Claritin on hand for allergies. Looking it up, I see that Claritin is sometimes used for chemo-induced bone marrow inflammation and bone pain. Is that the rationale for your use?

I was not told about the Claritin. Only ibuprofen and Tylenol. Yes, I also have MS and should've been told because of underlying health issues. Just a bad situation all the way. I hope others that get Reclast are better informed.

@linda1974 what is the reason you feel Claritin is helpful?

Sclerostin inhibition causes inflammation of the bone marrow. Antihistamines can alleviate that inflammation.

@gently that makes sense but I thought this thread was about Reclast 🙂

Wasn't sure you'd be willing to make the leap from bone marrow inflammation with evenity and those same inflammatory processes documented with (high dose zoledronic acid) Reclast even though although bone marrow inflammation is noted especially for those with autoimmune.
I leave you the suggestion.
