Bad odor from chemo?
My husband was diagnosed with Colon Cancer and is going thru infusion Chemo. He also has a colostomy bag.
He is half way thru his chemo. Since he started chemo I have noticed a terrible odor in my house. It is a “chemically” odor, not a poop odor. He is very private about everything and won’t discuss any of this with me. Could this smell be from the chemo?

I experienced something similar during my chemo treatments. It did subside after three or four days.
For the first several rounds of Chemo I could smell the chemo on my breath.
After about the fourth round I don't notice it so much.
It could be that you have a hyper sensitive sense of smell and are picking up the chemo which is indeed present.
Yes and he can’t help it! While I was doing chemo there was definitely a different sweet chemical smell on me and in the house from what I touched. Chemo comes out of our bodies in our urine and in our sweat, especially in the few days after an infusion. I washed the bed linen and clothing more frequently, especially after the infusions. My couch is leather so it was easy to wipe down if needed. To me the smell wasn’t bad or terrible - just different and something to be worked with and around. I used aromatherapy anyway for stress relief, and burning wonderful essential oils served a dual purpose of helping reduce the smell. Best wishes finding a way to adapt that works for you both!
Yes, the chemo came out of my pores especially for the first 3 days after each treatment - I would wake up every morning drenched in sweat
@janoh, I noticed this with my dad too. It wasn't overpowering or unpleasant, but different. Not my normal dad's smell. But once I noticed it, it was hard to not notice it anymore. Like @isadora2021 said, he couldn't help it. My mom also washed linens more frequently which helped a bit.
I have a pretty sensitive sense of smell. I dabbed some lavendar oil on my upper lip area which helped me when no one else was bothered by it.
Have you found anything that helps?
