Has anyone using ostomy pouches experienced rashes and itching?
Has anyone using ostomy pouches experienced rashes and itching? If so, any suggestions? Allergy pill seems to help except for the redness.

I have been using Sensi Care sting free adhesive releaser for many years to remove the pouch without any pulling or tugging. I order it each month from my supplier “Edgepark” , you can also find it on Amazon.
I hope this helps you!

Thank you. I've added your information to my supplier file. I'll see if I can add that product to my order. I appreciate your help. Laura
Yes and no. The prescription drug helped right away. But I haven't had the opportunity to find out the culprit by process of elimination. The pouch is due to be changed tomorrow so I can assess how much of the redness is gone. But I have tried all of the tips which I appreciate very much. I'll continue to see if I can narrow this down. Laura
I have both redness and itching, and am now using "Stomahesive Protective Powder," which is applied to areas of the pouch contacting the red areas. It is then lightly patted with "Adhesive Remover Wipe, No Sting." This application has only been applied for the last few days, and it remains to be seen if it is effective.
It could be a yeast infection. You can use Coloplast Micro-Guard powder (not prescription). You will need to apply the powder and then "crust" it with a barrier wipe or spray, or the appliance won't stick. I have found that mixing the powder with Stomahesive powder in the Stomahesive bottle works well.
If you are still having issues seeing a WOCN would be a good idea.
Thank you for your information. Today I changed the pouch and there was minimal redness and no itching in the ostomy area. So, it appears that the prescription worked after only 4 days - now discontinued. Have gone back to anti-itch creams I bought ($49 worth of various) to treat his back which is the only area now of itch. Will continue monitoring. I'll keep your info on file! Laura
Thank you for this information. I've noted it in my ever- increasing Ostomy file. I need to add your items to my next ostomy supply order. I sincerely hope this works for you. Keep in touch. Laura
Nope, after a year... 🙂
These items were included in my last order. Am anxious to try it out. The Coloplast advisor went over the instructions with me. Thanks.
The itch has subsided and I did use the powder on the redness and it worked - the redness is gone. Thanks.
