It could be a yeast infection. You can use Coloplast Micro-Guard powder (not prescription). You will need to apply the powder and then "crust" it with a barrier wipe or spray, or the appliance won't stick. I have found that mixing the powder with Stomahesive powder in the Stomahesive bottle works well.

If you are still having issues seeing a WOCN would be a good idea.

Thank you for your information. Today I changed the pouch and there was minimal redness and no itching in the ostomy area. So, it appears that the prescription worked after only 4 days - now discontinued. Have gone back to anti-itch creams I bought ($49 worth of various) to treat his back which is the only area now of itch. Will continue monitoring. I'll keep your info on file! Laura

The itch has subsided and I did use the powder on the redness and it worked - the redness is gone. Thanks.
