Hypothesis: Optimism and Gratitude Go Hand-In-Hand
What do you think?
It's been my observation, especially since having a stroke, that optimism and gratitude are closely related and also reinforce each other.
Conversely, pessimism and ingratitude tend to feed on each other, which is why I try to cultivate gratitude in my life.
Have you experienced this as well? Or am I oversimplifying?
P.S. Happy Thanksgiving!

Absolutely!
Update: Tim just came to my door with 2 plates of food being carried by his two daughters. And for the first time, I met his son (now legal) plus a surprise! Twins who were born a few months ago! Tim looks so happy and proud of his little clan. It's wonderful to see how this beautiful family has been blessed!
That’s awesome! It seems you really made their Thanksgiving very special. Nothing feels better than giving to someone who appreciates it.
Optimism tends to look forward. Gratitude tends to look back. So, in one sense you could say that their directions are in opposition and therefore are not related. Then again, both lie on the positive side of traits and so may be related. What then is the connection? I propose that the only connection between the two is who possesses them. You are the connection between the two.
As for reinforcing each other, as they are on the positive side we can safely say that birds of a feather flock together. Then again, we can say that opposites attract. Perhaps it is the opposing directions that creates the attraction.
Best always,
s!
I totally agree! You text some great reflections. Positive and appreciated.
I have found that keeping a gratitude journal is helping me. Every night I list 3 different things I'm grateful for before bed. Also when I have a negative thought during the day I replace it with 2 positive. It can be hard at times because I suffer from anxiety and depression. Doing it in repetition is suppose to rewire the brain as my therapist has said. I also have alot of excess worry about everything as well. I need to work on that if anyone has any tips
Angelica,
It is a long shot, but do you know your LDL cholesterol reading? Is it low, like around the 30's, like mine?
I have had a lifetime of anxiety (approaching 80) and I am grateful for the Mayo Clinic stating that low LDL can cause anxiety and depression. It can be caused by PCSK9 loss of function mutation that runs in the family for about 2% of the population.
If yours is low, I will write more about my experience.
Thanks for sharing! Amazing and added new friends/Angels to your life. Hugs!
