I started to take Pitavastatin 1mg and after taking it fir 1 month, I started to feel stabbing pain on my calf muscles, ankles and inner thighs. Then the pain went to the bottom of my feet. I am a 72 yrs old active lady. I walk one hour 5 days a week on a treadmill, follow very strictly the Mediterranean diet and all my lipids are normal. The cardiologist told me that since my Lipoprotein A is 267 I should be on a statin. My mom had 3 Coronary bypasses and she was never put on a statin. My dad had heart disease & never took z statin. Both probably had very high Lipoprotein A but their physician never gave mention statins. Both passed at their late 90’s.
Today I said No More Statins for me. The pain is so bad in my legs that my quality of life went down. I wrote a message to my cardiologist telling him I will not take it. I will see if these symptoms go away. It is not a good feeling believe me.

I failed every statin I tried - with the severe stabbing pain you describe plus muscle spasms. My PCP really wanted me to take something, and referred me to a cardiologist, recommended Repatha and got me an exception with my insurance company.

This turned out to be a good thing, because a few weeks later I was diagnosed with a previously unknown heart blockage! Now I take Repatha and 2 other meds to keep it from getting worse, and will hopefully avoid stents or other surgical intervention.

Might you be interested in asking your doc about it?
