Can Ablation Knee Procedure Negatively Effect my Leg/Feet Neuropathy?

Posted by mercuryrose @mercuryrose, Nov 24 7:11am

Instead of having Knee Replacement Surgeries I can have Ablation Knee Procedure. Can this Procedure affect my Feet and Leg Neuropathy? The Nerves that will be burnt during this Procedure to stop my Knee Pain cause further problems? I am 80 years old and find my Neuropathy and Knee pain has really limited my balance and requiring walking with a Walker.

@markmark007 mentioned his wife was considering a knee ablation for similar symptoms in another discussion and may have some experience to share. I did find a reference that sounds like it is effective.

"Conclusions
Genicular Nerve Radiofrequency Ablation (GNRFA) holds the potential to be equally effective for both post-TKA knee pain and osteoarthritic knee pain."
-- Effectiveness comparison of genicular nerve ablation for knee osteoarthritic versus post-total knee arthroplasty pain: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2772594424000086

Is the pain the biggest concern for walking?

Regarding your question:
Yes, a concern for walking and in general whenever weight is on the legs.
