Has anyone tried treatment for diabetic neuropathy?

Posted by beetlejeuse @beetlejeuse, Apr 25, 2022

My dad (age 60) was recently diagnosed with diabetic neuropathy and I have been researching all about it this past week. I know there is no cure but I have run into multiple treatment centers that claim they can help alleviate the pain. My dad lost so much weight recently, I could barely recognize him and it scared me half to death, and he can't sleep through the night because of the pain. Has anyone tried Loma Linda's INF treatment or HFX spinal cord stimulation? The meds given by his doctor don't seem to help much so I am also going to try to give him some medicinal edibles to sleep through the night.

Thank you to anyone who can give me some insight.

What do I do? My fiance is type 2 Diabetic And also has neuropathy in the legs and feet And his pain is is excruciating. Does it help to go to a podiatrist He is on gabapentin Lyrica and that does not help With the pain. Any suggestions On what he could ask his doctor for ? Does anyone know what triggers The pain to come on ? His blood sugar is more normal than it is high. What food should he eat and what should he stay away from? We are lost in this whole life changing diagnosis. Anyone's quality of life changed drastically? Also, he's on Medicaid what does that cover for him? Anything that will help? At what age can he add medicare? Any help for us is appreciated.

I have PN but I am not a diabetic or pre-diabetic but I have figured out that if I eat sugary things; think a frosting laden cup cake or prunes (dried fruit) my PN is aggravated. You might want to look and what you are eating and the amount of sugar and carbohydrates present. I'm still working it out as to how much and when to eat things. BUT I would definitely talk with your doc or a nutritionist before embarking on low carbo/sugar free diet. Make sure it is the thing for you to do. I'm waiting for a consult now.

I found that Gabapentin caused severe swelling of my legs and upper body. The only things that works on me for PN is to alternately soak my toes in hot and cold water twice a day. That opens up the blood vessels allowing for increased flow of oxygenated blood to my toes. A couple of weeks of doing that and the pain has almost gone.

THC does work to allow sleep. I've been using it for years, however I now have been waking up feeling weak and dizzy. I think it has finally caught up with me after about 10 years.

Has anyone had any success with the treatment program offered by Dr. Emmett Blahnik or any other chiropractor?

I went to a chiropodist for peripheral neuropathy. He recommended laser therapy. 12 sessions. It didn't work. 😩

Thanks, Justin.

I have tried essentially 3 things: 1. Controlling my diabetes, 2. Exercise, 3. Foot Massagers. I think all three help to slow the progression, but my neuropathy continues to worsen. All my doctors tell me there is no cure. My neurologist suggested gabapentum, but I've been told that gabapentum will only mask the pain and can lead to other problems. The only medical people who claim to have a cure are chiropractors. Very few of them, if any, can provide any evidence that their treatments (which tent to cost in the $7,000 to $10,000 range) actually work. And a number of my doctors tell me that some of their patients have worked with chiropractors and did not have any success.
