Managing Hip Bursitis Pain

Posted by donnajones @donnajones, Nov 14 6:04am

I have what has been diagnosed as bursitis in my right hip for almost a year now-steroids will relieve for a brief period of time . I can’t sleep of a night because that is when the pain is the worst. The only non pharmaceutical relief I have gotten is sound wave therapy has anyone had this and tried something that worked. This is now even bothering me when I walk of a day.

@gussie

I had hip replacement 6 years ago. It was my right hip. The pain was in my pelvic area not on my side. There is a percentage of people that get bursitis after hip replacement and I am one of the lucky ones. The pain from bursitis is on my side not in the pelvic area. I walk for exercise. And yes, it hurts if I lay on my right side to sleep. So far I am hanging in there with shots about every six months. By the way 83 year old female

Good morning @gussie. I am an 82-year-old female with similar challenges. About 10 years ago I was introduced to MFR, myofascial release. I am now being treated twice a week for SFN (small fiber neuropathy) occasional right hip bursitis and some pretty invasive aging issues. Have you been introduced to MFR? I want to introduce you to Jennifer Hunter,@jennifer0324. Last week she presented a session on MFR to all of the mentors here on Mayo Connect. She can help you find helpful and current information MFR.

I have right hip bursitis, now for about a month and a half. This week Physical Therapy did "dry needling" on the muscle at the hip. It has worked wonders. I have less pain and am sleeping better.
My research told me that dry needling has about the same effect as an injection into the joint. Maybe this will help you.
