Breast Radiation

Posted by sharon44r @sharon44r, 3 days ago

I’m on my 11 treatment of breast radiation and I feel very tight in rib area. Rib area feels sore under breast. Anyone else have that? I read radiation can cause rib fractures. I will tell my dr today. I think if my breast weren’t large and moving it might not hurt as much

@sharon44r I know you said you would talk to your doctor about this, but the radiation technicians are your advocates and you see them daily. Have you mentioned this to them or have you seen the doctor?

I saw dr yesterday and he said it was ok to continue, radiation can cause tightness feeling. The radiation techs are not drs.. so they couldn’t say too much.
Thanks for caring 😊

Hi
I had the same tightness you are talking about. I had 23 radiation treatments after having a lumpectomy and 3 nodes taken out. I asked my radiologist about the tightness they said stretching can help. It did help me. I continued to do my normal routine everyday while getting my treatments done. I did my housework, kids activities, and worked a full time job. Yes it took a toll on me but when my body was tired I would sleep and rest. I hope this helps good luck

Hi there, I am wondering if I have radiation fibrosis? After 30Gy radiation on my chest wall, armpit and scapula I am feeling quite a lot of tightness and resistance when moving my arm. I keep up my exercises as I don’t want it to get “stuck”. Also I have quite a bit of lumpiness in my armpit. Is this fibrosis or is it still cancer? I have had ct scan and ultrasound and they haven’t found anything specific, thank god, but it sounds rather vague and I wonder if anyone have had this experience. Thanks for any input🙏🤗

I remember reading scar tissue can form around where surgery was. Probable what that is. Ask your dr.
Some one told me to do stretches for the tightness, I just started . Maybe it will help. Radiation can make your breast feel different.? I have 3 more treatments. And feeling very tight. .
I really just think it is scar tissue. Fibrosis is scar tissue, it’s possible it will soften up in time. Best of luck!

I had cording (axilary web syndrome), caused by surgery and radiation. I had OT with a lymphadema specialist who was able to break up the tightning scar tissue. I now do daily exercises to keep the range of motion I gained in OT. Hopefully your care team can order an evaluation to see if that is your situation.

Thanks for your response 🙏. I had my radiation 6 months ago and I feel the tightness and lumpiness is getting worse, despite my stretching and massaging regime. It feels great a day or so after my physio’s treatment but it doesn’t last. 😕. It feels like an iron clamp around my chest!! ( On the right side where I had the treatment)

I am feeling that clamp and I have 2 more treatment out of 16. Tried stretching earlier. My left arm is hurting too 😩
Hope we both feel better. Did yours start hurting during treatment too?
Mine is on the left and I hope it doesn’t effect my heart.
