Managing Hip Bursitis Pain
I have what has been diagnosed as bursitis in my right hip for almost a year now-steroids will relieve for a brief period of time . I can’t sleep of a night because that is when the pain is the worst. The only non pharmaceutical relief I have gotten is sound wave therapy has anyone had this and tried something that worked. This is now even bothering me when I walk of a day.

donnajones, Have you tried one of those knee pillows between your knees to take the pressure off your hip?
Praying for you as I know this is so painful. Blessings & Prayers....
I had hip replacement 6 years ago. It was my right hip. The pain was in my pelvic area not on my side. There is a percentage of people that get bursitis after hip replacement and I am one of the lucky ones. The pain from bursitis is on my side not in the pelvic area. I walk for exercise. And yes, it hurts if I lay on my right side to sleep. So far I am hanging in there with shots about every six months. By the way 83 year old female
I use Tylenol for Arthritis which sometimes works as I have
left knee Bursitis. They say keep moving & work on building
muscle.
another suggestion was " dry needling" but I haven't looked into that.
I do use a version of ? volterin? a cream to rub on my knee daily, again,
which SOMETIMES works. Have you been to a physical therapist?

Love my knee pillows!!
Have one on each side of the bed as I am a side sleeper
& turn from side to side at night= works for me. K
Yes to the pillow under the knee! Absolutely YES! Crazy as it sounds (because it is so simple) it is what relieves my hip pain and other neuropathy/radiculopathy. My GUESS (having had joint replacement and nerve pain problems) is that the nerves exiting the spine are getting triggered and it shows up along the hip joint, leg, and foot. I had hip replacement 2012 & 2014 and it fixed a ton but it was the lumbar work in 2019 that released the squashed nerves. It can take 10 years for the nerves to "wake up" and when they do watch out! Also, in my lumbar surgery they only did L3, 4, 5 and so the outside areas are now "collapsing." I intuitively think that those outside vertebrae, destabilized, are squashing the exiting nerves and I am going thru this all over again. So the pillow is mandatory to keep my spine aligned while I sleep. I am 67 now. I continue to see the orthopedic surgeon every six months. He can see with a simple xray how my spine is deteriorating. I use topicals if needed (diclofenec gel 3%, lidocaine gel 5% ) and a host of other things I rotate around. I wake with screaming pain in my shin in the middle of the night and rub it a little and reposition, and it goes away quickly. When I walk up hill, it aggravates. I think keeping your spine in tip top shape is most important. (pillates, or yoga). I take it all in stride at this point.
I just had my first shot into my left hip for what was diagnosed as bursitis. This was almost a week ago, and it is still sore. It was done by an orthopedic dr. I keep wondering if the shot didn’t hit the right spot??? I sleep with a pillow between my knees every night, I stretch frequently and do exercises for my hip. I do know that my hip has arthritis because an x-ray was done and the dr pointed it out to me. My left knee also has bad arthritis, so I thought that maybe my knee was affecting my hip. I already had right knee replacement and have decided to never undergo another knee replacement in my lifetime!!! Have had cortisone shots to the left knee now for three years but they are no longer effective. The ortho dr suggested a series of three “gel shots” as long as insurance will approve it. I am waiting to hear back on that one. Between my left knee and my left hip, I am falling apart!!!! I am 75 and other than that arthritis (also in my thumbs!!), I’m doing okay!!!!!
the injections "bleed" over so I'm sure they did. But it could take a couple of weeks. However, if it is not bursitis and originates from the spine, you might need to get the injections in your lumbar area.
Hello , I had my left hip
Replacement in 2021 , it was replaced because I was in an auto accident in 2018. I had a torn labrum repaired but it did not take care of the pain eventually I needed the hip replaced and since then I have pain from bursitis , the current surgeon wanted to release or to cut the tendon causing the issue, but did mention that it may not take care of the pain .I decided to go to Mayo Clinic for a second opinion I did see Dr. Hevesi He did recommend that I stretch the tendon instead of cutting it , that procedure he performs , so in December, I will be going to Mayo Clinic to have this done. I will let you know and keep you all posted as to how I am after that thank you very much.
I’m basically in same boat but I have spondylitis also with severe scoliosis. I wake up crying. My quality of life is so bad. I can barely drag myself out of house I feel so miserable. Idk🤷♀️
I am very sorry to hear that , have you tried other places for other medical options such as Mayo Clinic?
