Reclast side effects

Posted by dingus @dingus, Aug 15 2:24pm

Does anyone have a solution to combat Reclast side effects. I had the infusion a year and a half ago and the side effects started shortly after I had the infusion. I still have weak legs, swelling in feet, pain in bones, dizziness (serious dizziness), cold sweats, tired all the time and nervous twitching in bones. Any suggestions?

@hlp123 so sorry this happened to you. And you only took Prolia for one year, followed by the suggested Reclast,

I hope you have a good endocrinologist. Not sure what if any studies show about this sequence. Chances are the doc will try Forteo, Tymlos or Evenity.

Someone posted good results for Evenity after Prolia, though effectiveness was reduced. The same might be true for Evenity after Reclast but again, someone on this forum posted good results for that too.

"Great Bones" says that Forteo and Tymlos aren't effective right after Prolia (due to rebound) but we would be interested to hear if they are possible in your situation. I know Tymlos is reputed to help with healing since I took it right after spinal fractures.

I am so glad that you got the head of Endo involved. Since you have fractures after (because of?) treatment, perhaps the doctors will take extra care in their recommendation. Let us know!

I just typed a long response to your message and then I tried to print it out and I can't find it. I don't know what happened to the message. Please let me know if you got my response ! Thank you
My Dexa scan results from August 27, 2024 were included in my response. Lumbar spine L-1-L-4 level -1.7 Lumbar spine at L2-L-4 level -2.2 femoral neck -3.1 total hip -3.2 I hope my whole message is saved somewhere
Thank you, I hope we can continue to share information.

Thank you so much for your response ! Yes, the endocrinologist that I sought for a second opinion said that even though I was diagnosed with fractured ribs in August, that I had to wait until December and then get the blood work that he wanted to give my ribs a chance to heal before he would decide what medication I should take to protect my bones. My bone density score from from August 27th are : Lumbar spine L-1-L-4 level at -1.7, at L-2-L-4 level at -2.2, at femoral neck -3.1, hip at -3.2 I really appreciate the helpful advice from you. After my year on Reclast, the doctor said the dexa scan showed that the Reclast had locked in the gains from the Prolia and that I would me ok. This is not the case.
Thank you !

@hlp123 It is difficult for me to follow the sequence of events of your fractures, scans and dr statements. It sounds like you fractured 5 ribs, had a DXA scan and a doctor told you had locked in your gains from the Prolia all in the month of August. Plus you previously said you had lost 20% compared to your DXA from before the Prolia.
Maybe I've got this mixed up because it doesn't seem to make sense.
It certainly seems like 2 Prolia shots and then 1 Reclast infusion really went haywire for you? With only two Prolia shots usually Reclast would do the job. But as I said before if you don't track the bone markers you are just assuming the Reclast will work and it simply does not always work for stopping that post Prolia bone loss.
If you had 5 ribs fracture without a traumatic accident and your DXA spinal numbers aren't that bad - then you may have some other issues going on besides low bone density. Of course low BMD can allow a traumatic injury to cause greater damage and more fracturing. So with the ribs it's important to evaluate the degree of injury and the cause of the injury. Did you sneeze or were you in a car wreck at 70mph? If it was minor trauma and impact then you are very likely at high risk of more fractures.

BTW, Prolia is not too bad for side effects if you totally ignore the gigantic post Prolia problem which some people do.

I don't see any messages to me, sorry! I lose messages from time to time when I switch back to the forum in the middle of writing one!

This confuses me:

Lumbar spine L-1-L-4 level -1.7 Lumbar spine at L2-L-4 level -2.2
