Skin Care during Radiation?
Next month I'll have three weeks of radiation. (up from one , but I'm grateful for the change made by my radiation oncologist, who said he noticed something on my biopsy. His goal was to help me live another twenty years.) Someone on this loop commented that she used "fresh aloe vera." Does that mean a plant? If so, where do you buy it and how do you prepare it? Thanks for any other additional skin tips. My 3 weeks will be between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

@ebtexas55 When you say you drank Johnsons aloe vera do you mean the oil? Just looked that up. If so, did you drink in straight and what quantity? Like a teaspoon? Thx!

THANK YOU FOR SHOWING ME MY ERROR!
You can find it at health food stores.
Okay then. Wish we could add emojis! Found it on Amazon and it will be at my door on Thursday. Thank you. I have gotten some really good suggestions from this forum and I thank everyone.
Hope it works for you! 🌺
I had 20 rounds of radiation plus 4 days of targeting the exact area in where the tumor was, and honestly it wasn't as bad as I had seen on social media videos. I started applying Cetaphil from the very beginning, I applied right after each radiation session and at night after I showered. When you shower don't let the water run straight to the area, and don't scrub it. 3 weeks of radiation should not be that bad at all, you might not even have side effects or maybe but very minium.
The radio-oncologist did prescribed me two different creams which worked wonderful also. She used to check the area weekly to ensure I was okay.
If you want to use aloe vera you can. I have used aloe vera in the past for sun burn. In my country, we use it straight from the plant you can buy the organic leafs from WholeFoods in the USA they have the leafs you will only need to peel it and the juice will literally come out is very jelly you can just apply on the affected area while peel it or put on a yard and use it from there ( topically) I had use it as I peel it and it's full of vitamin E.
If you drink aloe vera has to be the juice. I wouldn't take it for long term I don't think too much of it is safe. I believe is an article from Mayo Clinic about drinking too much of aloe vera isn't safe.
Thank you, @claudiaovandol I now have two aloe plants on my porch, as well as several creams. Yes, I have the AV juice too. I'll look for that Mayo article about not drinking too much aloe vera. If anyone else has info on that, I would appreciate it!
@marshgirl I found this article at Mayo website. Is it what you’re looking for?

Thanks, @myyoga . I imagine drinking raw aloe that includes the latex could mess up your kidneys since that yellow latex is a laxative. The bottle I have was suggested on this loop. I'll have to give it a try before I need it in Dec!
Although I don't know if we're allowed to do this, for all the women who are undergoing radiation, I have found the best shirts at Sam's! They are super soft and only about $8. I bought two in XXL and they are so comfortable. The label said Eddie Bauer. I think those companies/brands make special products for Sam's .
I was given Vanicream when I was getting radiation. It works great, in fact I was told to keep using up to a year after your all done. I am doing so. I've heard to use aloe as well. Just break off a piece of the plant and smooth it around.
