Managing Hip Bursitis Pain

I found anti-inflammatory injections a life saver. Either at the hip or at the sacral joint. First lasted 6 years, then 3, 1.5, 6 mo. and than nothing. At that point my hip needed replacement. It was a misalignment of the hip joint, which expressed itself as "bursitis." Make sure they do an MRI and see a hip surgeon if you can't find a resolution. Bursitis goes away; a degenerating hip joint does not.
Pain relievers along the way: Diclofenac gel 3%, Biofreeze, sleeping with a pillow in between my knees (still do that to this day 12 years later!); yoga, stretching, and walking. Watching my posture and exercising the hip joint muscles to maintain strength and support. Watch the weather and see if you are worse when it changes, will rain or gets humid - then you can deal with anti-inflammatories and topicals. Loved my heating pad!
Try inserts in your shoes. Go to a professional podiatrist or the Comfort Foot Store and have someone check your leg lengths and your gait. When my hips were evened up with the inserts that helped take the pressure off at the joint for a while.
I find the doctor's term for all hip pain these days "bursitis" and it's just the code used to get an initial diagnosis, although it is mostly wrong. But they have to start somewhere. Good luck!

This bursitis in my hip is worse at night laying down. At first a pillow worked but not anymore. I have one position I can now sleep in on my back. It surely does disrupt my sleep. I’m going to try a steroid shot. If that doesn’t work I did read an article you can have your bursa removed. Who knows like you say maybe that’s not even it, they haven’t xrayed or scanned my hip yet. Thanks for your reach out much appreciated.
