Thanks so much for the reply, I can’t take NSAIDS because of my kidneys. I do use a heating pad at night. This pain is not taken care of by the pain medication prescribed by my doctor. I’ll try the voltarin gel haven’t done that.

@donnajones
My Voltaren gel for arthritis shows it has NSAIDs so may not be an option for you.

The Lidocaine may be a temporary relief option. Tylenol, too. If you have inflammation, ice packs may be better than a heating pad. Heat may make the symptoms worse.

I have tried all of the above and think I may need to see a pain specialist for nerve ablation. The pain in my hips after lumbar surgery is excruciating at times and believe a nerve was injured or compressed causing pain to radiate to hip/hip flexors.

Nerve pain is the worst!

Hi Donna,

For inflammation, ice is usually mech better than heat. Ice reduces inflammation, albeit temporarily. Heat brings in blood and this usually makes inflammation worse.

I'd check with your Dr about using Voltaren gel, given the impact on your kidneys.

All the best to you - I hope you find some relief.

Joe
