Has anyone ever taken any of these medications for back pain?

Posted by monty87ls @monty87ls, Jul 29, 2023

Ive posted here before about my back issues but after another visit with the Neurologist they have again switched me to a new medication that I made the mistake of looking up. So far for Radiculopathy they have given me (with bad side effects)
Cyclobenzaprine
Gabapentin 100
Methocarbamol
Nabumetone which I still take.
And now Nortriptyline.
Anyone have good or bad stories about this drug? Thanks.

NEVER EVER Take Gabspentin. It is wicked

Why are you saying Gabepentin is wicked? I've been using it for leg pain for a long time. It is a drug that has been around for a long time and known to be safe.

I’m glad it gave you such relief!

I think, or I was guessing, they must have experienced the known side effects… A lot of these medications used for chronic pain are systemic, so they can be more likely to cause troubling side effects for the people who experience them

(I realize many of us probably know this already…)

That’s the struggle with these forums; many of us our sharing personal experiences and each person is different and some of the experiences and opinions run the whole spectrum. I find myself trying to walk a path down the middle or trying to find my place, and sometimes it can get too stressful.

But it’s good to know you’ve had such a positive experience and thank you for sharing it,

Gabapentin controlled the severe nerve pain I experienced after a three level fusion. The opioid had very little effect. My surgeon advised me to increase the Gabapentin first when I couldn’t manage the pain and if it didn’t help, then take an opioid.

I take 2400 mg. of Gabapentin daily (800 mg in the am and 1600 mg pm) along with amitriptyline ( 25 to 50 mg at night). I will gradually decrease the mg and wean off, when possible.

These two medications helped me get through the first three months after a very complex surgery, and the nerves were compressed. I am still healing but am not suffering because of these two medications.

What a blessing they were for me.

Hello, Your list includes muscle relaxing medications, an antidepressant and an NSAID. Personally, I have not found Gabepentin to have any effect on spine and neck pain. I suggest that you study the effects of each medication online then take each one-at-a-time for two weeks or so.

That's quite a list! I have been taking Gabapentin off and on for about seven years. 200 mg three times a day at first, then upped to 300 3x a day, currently on 600 mg 3 x day. Barely touches my nerve pain.
