Radiation/Orgovyx Blood Test Results
Is it normal for your urologist (radiation oncologist) to request a full blood panel (CBC) prior to starting treatment with salvage radiation and Orgovyx? I wish I had done this prior to my treatment. I know that radiation probably isn't affecting my blood chemicals. I am finished with 37 radiation treatments and in my 4th month of 6 planned months of Orgovyx. I had a CBC two weeks ago in prep for an annual checkup with my GP. The tests showed some of the expected side effects of Orgovyx (increase in A1C, increase in triglycerides, increase in LDL). Fasting glucose was just slightly increased and liver enzymes were fine. At this point, I'm not sure whether these increases are because of the Orgovyx or because my diet has not been as controlled over the past year. I wish I had a baseline set of numbers before I started the Orgovyx. I'm going to get another test in about three months. What has been your experience with blood tests? Did any of your doctors get a baseline panel before starting treatment?

It doesn’t seem to be too unusual to require a CBC. The CBC however doesn’t check for A1C, increases in triglycerides, or increase in LDL. The last two are done in a lipid panel and the A1c is done separately as well in a hemoglobin A1c test
The CBC will tell him about your blood, white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, hemoglobin and hematocrit.
That could give him an idea if you have a problem with healing.
I don't know about salvage radiation per se, but before I started my prostate cancer treatment my cancer center did a full blood and urine workup, including a testosterone level test. All of this was repeated at six months, and, I was told, will be repeated again at 12 months. In addition, every three months my testosterone and PSA will be checked for the next two years.

2 ReactionsSorry, I was using inaccurate terminology. My GP had a complete blood panel done, including tests for A1C and the lipid panel. I just wish my RO had requested a complete set of blood tests prior to start of my treatment so that I would have had a baseline for all of the tests prior to undergoing treatment.
Did you get a baseline of testosterone? That’s another important one that’s good to track.
Yes, my testosterone has been checked regularly since my prostate removal two years ago.
