Side Effects of Evenity?

Posted by bradford14design @bradford14design, Nov 4 10:33am

I had my 11th injection of Evenity last week. I asked the nurse if any other patients receiving Evenity complained of side effects. He said no. I find this very hard to belive. Would love to hear from those who have experienced side effects.
Mine were mostly felt 12 days after the shots.
Foggy brain for 2-3 days
Low energy
Off balance
Sleep issues
Itchy arms- one time after shot
Red face- a few hours after the shot

I tried Tymlos for 4 months but unfortunately I had bad knee pain so had to stop. The price for Evenity is $500 a month and can’t afford it. Not sure what medication is best after that.

@jolie2525 could you try a lower dose of Tymlos? I could never tolerate 80mcg (full dose) but could do 70mcg. Strange! Amgen makes Evenity and you could call the company about financial aid. Forteo now has a generic but I don't know what it costs.

I called Amgen and they said I could try patient assistance programs and I spoke to a couple and they’re waiting to get more grants. My doctor never said about lowering Tymlos. That’s a good idea! Ty

@jolie2525 a lot of us are doing that with Tymlos. I didn't tell my doctor until after the fact but he knows my history of sensitivity and lowering doses. In fact he says he now suggests it to patients. He was very happy when I got to 60 mcg when full dose is 80mcg and I did get to 70. I went all the way back to 20mcg before moving up each week or two.

I appreciate your information. I’m in Florida and we have one of the worst Doctors compared to when I lived in New Jersey 😢 I’m going to make an appointment with a new Endocrinologist who got good reviews so I’m 🙏 he’ll direct me in the right direction. I hope you have continued success in your journey 😊

I had Evenity for 5 months I immediately felt pain on my left hip I returned to the doctor 4 times due those 5 moths he said it was nothing…maybe “constipation” the pain became unbearable I ended up on the ER where I was diagnosed with Osteonecrosis on both my hips I had no choice but to get surgery and I’m miserable in pain all the time on my bones throughout my body 🙁

Do you (Cuzco1968) take any steroid medication? If so, you may wish to discuss with your doctor. There is a rare allergy to steroids that can cause osteonecrosis. This happened to my spouse, resulting in joint replacement.

I just started Evenity yesterday and no side effects (apart from slightly sore arms). I took a Tylenol and antihistamine an hour prior and made sure I was well hydrated.

Listen to your body. I had 5 Evenity injections, one month apart. The first two didn't seem to have any side effects but after the third one a whole lot of side effects came upon me. I should have stopped the injections then. FYI I have other maladies I deal with and am 88 years old. I have Neuropathy, high blood pressure, Lower back pain, Hyperparathyrodism and Hypercalcemia.
After the 5th injection I found myself noting disabilities and bone pain and muscle spasms. Other side effects were and are increased back pain when standing or walking (I walk with a cane), on my lower legs and the back of my thighs and knees. there were skin patterns like there was a rash that had dried up and I I am unable to find anything that will take those patterns away. The skin eruptions were worse in areas where the bone is closer to the skin surface, like the shins on the front of my legs.
The bone pain was mostly a night and sleeping event and was and still is in my feet (it increased the Neuropathy pain), hands, fingers, back, shoulders and hips.
I then had several episodes of Acid Reflux and extreme phlegm in the back of my throat with some coughing, which was new. I haven't ever had a breathing or coughing events before.
Incidentally, I had a female situation show up after the fifth injection in the back of the vagina and had to deal with tissue drying suddenly and slight bleeding. That is somewhat trying to heal with an appropriate hormone cream.
I have an appt with my thyroid doc this coming week. She is the medical professional which encouraged me to go with Evenity after reactions having four Prolia reactions over a two year period. I have a system which is over sensitive, which is the wording used by doctors to describe my side effect situation. I am done with any of these injections. I have no family history of bone problems. My Mother and her Mother had long lives without breakage of bones. They lived to be 90 and 98, respectfully.
At this stage of my aging, I am trying to eat better and get physical therapy to help my bones and muscles in check. Sorry for the long read.

Did you stop the Evenity after the 5th injection? If so, have any of your side effects improved or gone away? Will you be starting a drug to lock in possible gains? Thanks.

I discontinued Evenity after the 5th injection. I will not be taking any drugs currently available for osteoporosis treatment (my choice and my decision). My legs are starting to peel the dry damaged skin that had left me with leg skin looking like the skin of a lizard; slightly raised but it kept getting harder and was shedding like my skin was burned and I had dandruff of the legs. Lotions and items like Vaseline have not helped to add any moisture to the damaged leg areas. The itching just continues on. The bone pain during sleep has has gone away but the muscles in my legs and arms were weakened following the fifth injection. I still have muscle spasms in my lower legs and arms and hands. I have Hyperparathyroidism.and am not able to take supplemental calcium in any form as I have too much calcium in my blood.
My back pain is worse than it ever has been and I just returned to physical therapy two times a week.
The worst part of these side effects is an abundance of fatigue which started early following the third Evenity injection. The fatigue has not let up and it has been difficult to accomplish daily goals I set for myself as to household chores, running errands and grocery shopping.
I do not know if any gains were made by taking Evenity for five months.

When is your next DEXA scan, to see if you made any improvements? I hope your side effects go away soon. I am debating what drugs to take for my severe osteoporosis. I can't take Tymlos or Forteo because I have parathyroid issues. So that leaves Evenity followed by Fosamax or something similar.

Dear @dollieg , I’ve checked my bone density after 5 months and it’s got worse. Not sure if this helps. My doctor wants me to finish all 12. My back pain is behind control. I am probably going to have one more and after this I must have a second opinion about counting or to go on something else. Also she told me that I can have Tymlos after finishing Evenity but every source I been reading telling me that this is not a right sequence. I have severe osteoporosis and debilitating back pain and not a lot of help from doctors, unfortunately.
