Hello @charolevista and welcome to Mayo Connect. I am so sorry to hear of your sister's diagnosis and the difficulty she has had with finding a good treatment. Is she doing better with the lower dose of Carboplatin?

Are you your sister's primary caregiver right now?

Yes, I am with my other sister and her daughter. But her daughter is very young, so, We are her supportive system. Her husband has prostate cancer and he is also receiving treatments. She just received the new treatments, last Saturday, So it’s only 3 days. She is feeling ok, but my fear is that she felt ok the last time she was on the Strong dosages of Carboplatin and than 5 days later, she couldn’t eat , drink , very weak, couldn’t walk , slept all day, lost a lot of weight . Since her new diagnosis she has lost 53 pounds since June 19, 2024. I just pray she can withstand these treatments. Now that the cancer has Mets to the liver and spots on the stomach and liver , I am very nervous. The doctor made the statement, get you life in order and get the paper work filled out ASAP… I was just shocked how serious thing progress so quickly. Thank you so much for responding. Charole’vista 🙏🏽🙌🏽💪🏽🥰❤️

@charolevista, I add my welcome. I moved your post to the Gynecologic Cancer support group (https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/gynecologic-cancer/) where you can meet others who know first hand about getting the news of ovarian cancer metastacizing to the liver and elsewhere -- members like @corday7578 @mommacandy @leannn @kathrynevans22 @pauldale4 who can journey along side you and your sister.

It sounds like things are moving quickly. It must be so overwhelming, especially with her husband also in treatment for prostate cancer. Thank goodness she has you for support. Now it is our turn to be a support for you. We're here to listen to your concerns and perhaps offer experiences to help you prepare for what to expect, and to reframe hope.

I'm sure you have loads of questions, so fire away. I'll start with a couple of questions myself. Does your sister have a palliative care doctor or nurse as part of her team? They can help with managing symptoms of treatment. How is she managing emotionally? Has she or the family spoken with an oncology social worker?

Thank you so much 🥲 it can be very overwhelming. But I am trusting God to see us through. No matter what the situation is , God is BIGGER than anything we will ever encounter in our entire existence here in this world . I often say , Our trials don’t come to break us, they come to make us . God’s Grace is SUFFICIENT 🙏🏽🙌🏽✝️✝️✝️💪🏽 I know better days are coming , we just have to keep encouraging ourselves. Keep a positive mind set, and still allow ourselves to grief, but also allow ourselves to heal in the process. This is truly the most difficult 😥 challenge that me and my family has to face . I chose to face it head on, get as much information, seek the best doctors and treatments, and get as many opinion that we need . FIGHT UNTIL THE END , THAT’S WHAT A WARRIOR DOES. IT WON’T BE EASY , BUT IT WILL BE WORTH IT 🙏🏽🙌🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽🥲💗

Yes, my sister have a palliative care team. She is physically and mentally and emotionally extremely exhausted. I sometimes feel like she want to give up , but than I encourage her to keep fighting to live her BEST life . She has so much left inside of her , to just give up , she is going to have to find that enter strength . Prayer 🙏🏽 changes things , we believe in the higher power 🙏🏽✝️ I think she is still grieving the lost of our sister who transitioned on September 3,2024 and than the lost of our brother on November 7,2024🥲🕊😇 my family as a whole has experience some davastated challenges these pass 2 months , my mom is 89 and also has pancreatic cancer and she is on hospice 😥😥 Cancer runs deep in my family . 3 sisters had some form of cancer , my brother pass with brain cancer, lungs, kidney and liver with bone cancer, he also was dialysis. My dad passed away with Esophagus and lung cancer. 37 member in my family on my mom and dad side has died from cancer . I just pray 🙏🏽 Every day , that none of my kids are grandkids get it 😥 I am pretty strong 💪🏽, but there are times when I feel all alone and it seem like everyone depends upon me . I am only one person, but everyone needs something from me . Do anyone in this support deals with the same things ? Thank you so much for a response. 🙏🏽😇🥰

Welcome and if i can be of ANY help PLEASE reach out...i got my diagnosis in late January of Metastatic Ovarian Cancer (stage 3 c)...mine had spread to pretty much all female organs, spots on my liver, pelvic abdominal wall etc... I went through 3 cycles of Taxol/Carboplatin and my white blood cells never wanted to regenerate fast enough ...enter Neulasta...i literally suffered so much with that cause it gave me the headache from hell as i called it every time i had to take it...but after 3 cycles (which took til early june to complete i think it was or maybe late may) mine had responded enough for surgery...i'm sure you could prob search for my posts to read my complete journey on here...i started it while dealing with my best friend who had pancreatic cancer... but nonetheless, i found acupuncture to be a HUGE blessing in dealing with chemo side effects, ended up needing 7 units of blood through the journey and currently have a no evidence of disease HOWEVER i go in 2 weeks to have a basal cell carcinoma removed from my nose and a reconstruction done on it because its so deep they said i'll need reconstruction after removal...next follow up is in January for a CT scan on the ovarian thing...seriously feel free to ask anything and i'll do my best to answer...
As to feeling like you are all alone and everyone needs something? yep...been there, done that got the tshirt.... i was supporting my best friend through his journey with the pancreatic cancer all the while dealing with my own cancer as well...he passed on Oct 13 and I conducted his memorial service this past Saturday...and let me tell you...i'm STILL crying ..A LOT...and like you cancer runs DEEP in my family,, when they asked me about it, i literally took them in a genetic chart and they were amazed there was so many...and thats just the ones i knew of...which of course led to immediate genetic testing and yes i carry the brca1 gene... if they haven't done it i recommend getting it done asap as some of the genetic cancers respond better to certain chemos than others is what they told me and it sounds like she's in that situation.. but yes ask away, i'll do my best...

First of all, I am not on the same road as either of you, @charolevista and @mommacandy, so have nothing to offer in terms of advice or information about the path ahead. But I send my care and hope your way to each of you.
I am overwhelmed by the strength that each of you demonstrates in your loving dedication to and care for those around you who experience suffering, and the courageous, ongoing persistence in going on with life that each of you practices.

And I want to acknowledge how each of you is carrying on in these inspiring ways in the face of grief that would overwhelm the strongest of us. I am sincerely sorry for each of your losses. Your sister, @charolevista, and you, @mommacandy, are striving toward healing both your bodies and your hearts that ache due to loss. I, too, have recently lost a younger loved one to his own cancer. I recognize in myself how the shock of that loss and the deep emptiness and sadness take energy from me; something that is needed for staying on the path to healing cancer. And yet, pausing, even for a day or a week to be numb or cry or rest the heart in the face of loss, can maybe then allow for some more energy to come in that will help with turning toward what needs to be focused on next, whatever that is. I hope that each of you can take in whatever support the words of those of us here can offer, and can also receive care from those who surround you as you each continue to focus on what your hope and wisdom guides you toward.

With tender care and great hope,

Carla
