Best Calcium Supplement?
Which is the best type of calcium supplement? I've been taking calcium citrate (Citracal) which I understand is more easily absorbed than calcium carbonate (Caltrate). Most recently I've been hearing about calcium phosphate as an alternative. I like that it is available as a powder and may be less constipating than calcium citrate but it seems that is calcium phosphate is more for pets. Your thoughts?

I get mine very easily with daily Ensure Max Protein which has 650 mg calcium & thern add a at least a cup each of fortifued orange juice & fortified almond milk. I have always drunk milk & continuse to do so with 2% fortified
I am 86 & other than osteoporosis & COPD am in good health. I have run a cat rescue & rehome organization & currently have 9 cats in my house which I love. I also read tons of books!
My understanding is that magnesium affects the absorption of the calcium.
Thank you for your advice; I was wondering if anyone used the supplement “Beyond Osteo” for bones?
Bone-Up available on Amazon
I've abandoned calcium supplements. A bowl of cereal, a glass of milk, and miscellaneous items gets me to 1000 pretty easily. I use supplements for D3, K2, and magnesium.
P.S. I use Skim Plus since it has zero fat. I know some people can't have dairy. There is a lactose-free version.
FWIW- I do the same. I get 1200g of Calcium through diet-dairy, vegetables, some fortified foods and my multivitamin has 200mg. So far my Calcium levels have been good. And I take Vitamin D, Magnesium and K2. So far, so good.🤞
I’m not sure I’m following this. Do you take calcium supplements? Do you also take something else that protects your small intestine from the crystallization of the minerals?
Good for you guinivere, I also have Osteoporosis and COPD. The cats I am sure are helping a lot! There is nothing like animals to help you get older without complains! We are all mortals but life continues and can be changed to our desire the way we choose. Keep on your delightfull and healthfull lifetime.
I take citracal, as recommended by my endocrinologist who specializes in osteoporosis.
Me too. No problems with this. Endocrinologist and pharmacist both recommended it.
