Good Evening, Has anyone seen a physiatrist for their Ortho issues? If so what are your thoughts... Thanks

I use one regularly, for steroid injections in feet, previously in spine (but L5-S1 no no longer responds, nor does the R S-I, all locations where I've had previous steroid injections.

I used one for an epidural in my spine. They are good. They use myleograms (sp?) to guide their preciseness. They are actually radiologists.

Hi Joan, so the injections in those areas were for issues with your Feet? Is that pain, numbness or pressure. And so now the steroid is injected directly into your feet. Does that help and just one more question, sorry. But is your issue isolated to your feet or does it radiate from your spine down to your feet? Thanks so much, Shawn

I need to have more info, also! Do the injections in your feet help your back pain? The injections in my back helped the pain for 8 years & then they didn’t!

I see one for injections. She recommended I see a physical therapist because my SI Joint is causing me trouble. She can do an injection but I wanted to try PT first. I also worry about what the injections are doing to my bone.

Hi smn1, injections in feet are for osteoarthritis. It is pain that makes walking very difficult.
No numbness, no pressure, simply pain. It helps tremendously. Normally the injections are given every 3 months, but I don´t need them that often so each time I´ve had them, we´ve scheduled them one week farther out. I´m now getting them at about every 4 mo. With the injections I can walk, which I find very important. Without them, I can´t put any weight on my feet. This does not radiate from my spine down to my feet. No spinal involvement, just arthritis. As if arthritis were ever ¨just¨.

I hadn’t ever thought that they wouldn’t work on spine. Any surgery in future?

I was a delivery driver for many years. I had problems with my back in 1993 and went through surgery on my L2-3 and was no better. I was off work for a year and was not one bit better. Up to this point after surgery if I squatted down and then stood up the pain would put me back on the floor crying. My physical therapist recommended a Physiatrist after I had seen several other doctors. He did some X-rays and injections. The next trip back to see him I told him the injections did not help so he put me on the examination table and looked at the length of my legs. He said one was hanging down 1 1:2 inches longer than the other. He then rolled me over to one side and adjusted my back like a chiropractor. When he got through he ask if I felt any better. I replied let me squat down and we will see. When I stood up there was no pain. My back was out of alignment from jumping out of those trucks. I got a few more adjustments from a chiropractor and went back to work. Try everything before you try anything invasive to the body.
