Hi
My right glute was painful from last 10 months and one month ago left also started paining. Pain outer hip worsens after sitting for sometime. Hamstring and glute muscles are very tight, painful and burning. No back pain. It was told that i have hip bursitis mild after an mri in Apr-24. But recently doctors told me its not bursitis but nurve pain.
Is there anyone wjo can suggest what should i do

I have issues with my spine and hips/buttocks and hamstrings. I had MRIs of spine and both hips and told I have spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease and neurogenic claudication causing pain, weakness and numbness that goes down to my feet/toes. I was also told after having a hip MRI that I have bilateral gluteal tendinopathy and bilateral hamstring tears which helps explain some of the pain/weakness and numbness. My hip pain has increased since my lumbar surgery in August 2024 which is causing more weakness and difficulty standing/sitting/walking. PT started recently and is causing me some pain while trying to reawaken my muscles to stretch/strengthen them. Very painful so I empathize with you.

Have you had MRIs of BOTH lumbar spine AND left/right hips? The nerve pain can be coming from lumbar spine. Have you had EMGs/nerve conduction studies done by a neurologist? Have you tried PT?

Another option would be cortisone injections to help with any inflammation if they can narrow down the source of your pain. What types of doctors have you seen this far?

Be mindful of and aware of how your body responds to movement. When it comes to getting a dx, we all can find out "what's wrong" but we also need to discover what is right and what we can do to improve, whether it is gentle daily exercise (and PT), improved nutrition, provider support. Our bodies are very interconnected. A change in one area requires orchestration an adaptation. Sometimes you "cure one problem" and another surfaces. Keep moving!

Is it possible that a "hip tilt" may result from a fall, particularly a hard fall?

No, it is caused by your bone structure, your lifelong incorrect posture, and "foundational" issues. It starts at birth being being born susceptible to growing wrong. Imagine a house built with a couple wooden studs not put in the exact right place upon which to build the rest of the house. Like a doorway which is not squared. I have it too. It was cute while I was young, but exacerbates pain when old.

I have it too. All the replies here are on the right track! It could be like any of this. One thing not mentioned is MFR - It will help far more than a chiropractor and has the ability to pinpoint the issue better than acupuncture.
The writer who said it could be coming from your spine is correct. So you need to go through a process of elimination, step by step. Sitting too much always brings on hip, sciatic, and nerve pain.
The best natural thing, like mentioned - is keeping a strong "core." The nerves coming from the spine are "tricksters." Sometimes it gets so bad I take the cortisone or NSAId injection and everything settles down for a while. But when it does I go back to working (sitting) and it will start again. I ignore it for a while and then I have to deal with it. Yes, learning and PRACTICING the glut and hamstring stretches are critical. You have to figure out when not to exercise it and let it heal, vs. staying moving/stretching and keeping your core and muscles taut. Nerve conductive tests help pinpoint if it is referred pain or at the site. Nerves can be a problem. Spine and hip replacement surgeries helped all of it go away because it originated from lack of hip cushion and nerves exiting the cauda equina. But it still returned after 12 years because I have tight glut muscles impinging on the nerves. You need more info in your case. It all starts with a good orthopedic surgeon.

Quite possible.
Habitual movements can imbalance our musculature incrementally as we age. A slight imbalance can become exaggerated.
With injury we develope ways of moving to avoid a temporary pain. Those ways of moving can become permanent even as the injury heals.
From my experience a person needs a good physical therapist, but even a not so good chiropractor helps.

I have almost exactly the same thing. I had increased hip and butt pain after a laminectomy 2 years ago. I just had an MRI of my hips which showed moderate tendinosis of both hip abductors (worse on left) and minor tendinosis at hamstring origins. Also something going on with left labrum but I can’t understand it! I follow up with Ortho on Monday but am wondering what treatment be? More PT? Maybe a cortisone shot? Frankly I’m just glad they’ve found something to treat… and I do wonder why it got worse after surgery.

I have stenosis in my lumbar spine and nerves there are being pinched, which gives me pain in my glutes, hamstrings, hip and pelvis. Have you had any imaging done? I was diagnosed via CT scan.

REPLY

It sounds like piriformis syndrome possibly? I had this and physical therapy exercises such as clamshells, walking, icing the area etc. helped

Same here but exercise only makes the stenosis pain worse. I try to walk at least one mile a day. But I also have osteoarthritis in my feet and the walking hurts my feet. Seems like I can’t win I hope you find relief.

i threw out drugs with muscularskeletal side effects damage. and kidney disease. they weren't doing much for me. otc aspirin work well enough. and i am using estriol wanting to add progesterone and testosterone and have them made from plants
