Prostate cancer in the brain???

Posted by rice @rice, Oct 30 7:54am

I have 3+3 in 1/4 of one core and 3+4 in less of 10% of one core. My Polaris came back with little chance of spreading. But Monday I started getting really sick and my one arm was numb I went to the emergency room and because I had stroke symptoms they did a brain scan.( turns out I had Covid). They kept me overnight in the hospital. The next morning the 2 doctors that read the scan came into my room and introduced themselves. They told me I had a spot that could possibly be related to my prostate cancer they said I should see my oncologist and get a pet scan right away! I have never read anything about Prostate cancer going to the brain! Does anyone have any information about this? I am waiting for my Primary care doc's office to call me back today about a referral for a pet scan thanks

One member of our weekly advanced prostate cancer group at Ancan.org had his cancer migrate to the brain. He did not live a year after that happened. Apparently it can be very hard to treat. Once you get your pet scan results, you can come to the weekly meeting and ask about it..

Hopefully the pet scan will show that it’s something else.

The metastases can appear anywhere in the body, though those in bone are more common with prostate cancer. Hoping the scan shows another explanation.

Not being disrespectful but posting what you did about results of what poster might have and a time frame doesn't seem good. You always post helpful info for all of us. I have it in the bones and one of those bones appears to be in my head area, I'm pretty sure Rice is already anxious and I wish I could say encouraging things to him but I lack the words. Best to all

I am sorry to hear this. My suggestion would be to stay the course of recovering from your current health concern, take a deep and enjoyable breath, and then reach out to the oncologist.

I'm not familiar with the imaging of brain scans, but can share that whenever I do any scan of my abdomen, everyone gets in a panic because of a tictac size spot on my liver. Then they look at scans from 20 years ago and realize it's been there.

Be positive, patient and vigilant, hope you are back to normal soon

I should’ve made more points about it being in the brain. If you do find that, try to get it treated immediately., the sooner you do it the better chance you have of being able to beat it.

MRIdian radiation will work on brain tumors, since it can be more targeted and not affect as much other tissue.

If surgery is a possible it may also be a good option.

If you can get on ADT it can slow or stop cancer from growing, even shrink it, so encourage your doctor to get you on it if it does show prostate cancer in the brain. That should help stop it while you wait for treatment.

Try and get an oncologist involved as soon as possible. Your PCP is not trained to treat this. You want a neuro-oncologist, someone who is trained to treat brain tumors.

If you have one Gleason 7 you are Gleason 7. I was told I had 3+4 but after surgery it was 4+3 since the biopsy only can check a small portion of the prostate. Somebody else in here was mentioning they were told it was a 7 and it ended up being a nine after surgery, not the first time I’ve heard that.

When my PSMA came back there were two or three things that appeared ‘suspicious’. My RO said my scan was clear. How, with these areas? I asked since I was. 4+3 bigtime.
Prostate cancer doesn’t look like that and doesn’t go there unless we see areas closer to the prostate bed - and there aren’t any, he said.
So if your scan is clear, save this one spot in your brain it probably isn’t PCa - perhaps a cyst (VERY COMMON), vacuole or other normal variation on a theme.

With both a low Gleason and Decipher, it would be highly unlikely to have metastasized anywhere. Take a deep breath and know the odds are seriously stacked in your favor.

He has many steps to take before he even knows. Telling someone they know of a person who only lived a year after PCA in the brain is not helpful or necessary.

That’s why I updated it with more information. It is a dangerous problem, if actually true needs to addressed quickly.
