Reclast side effects

Posted by dingus @dingus, Aug 15 2:24pm

Does anyone have a solution to combat Reclast side effects. I had the infusion a year and a half ago and the side effects started shortly after I had the infusion. I still have weak legs, swelling in feet, pain in bones, dizziness (serious dizziness), cold sweats, tired all the time and nervous twitching in bones. Any suggestions?

I have had 2 Reclast infusions with fortunately less side effects than others. I just had my 2 year scan and my bone mineral density improved substantially, to the point my endocrinologist has paused the infusions until another scan indicates possibly another infusion at some point. I asked if the pain in my lower legs will get better, she advised that I take slow release magnesium at night. I’m sharing this because the Reclast did work for me, but I too experience pains and aches . Mine have been tolerable, drink lots of water , 8 hour Tylenol seems to help and I will see about the magnesium, I just started that .

Thanks so much for your reply. When you start comparing notes with others on this thread and especially with the 82 year old woman in the Cureus article, there is no doubt that Reclast is the reason for all the pain and other side effects that we are having. I think the shoulder pain is especially telling. Lots of people have knee and hip pain, but shoulder pain is not as common. Yet you and I and the 82 year old woman all have shoulder pain. Reclast is the common denominator. I have all the same side effects you mentioned plus foot pain that is unbearable and several other side effects. The pain seems to bounce around to various parts of my body and the intensity changes, too, from better to worse to better to worse...Thank goodness, or I would not be able to tolerate it. I'm with you. I will not get another infusion.

dingus,
This is not true for all of us. I had zero side effects from Reclast.
Is it a gamble? Of course. Everyone is different.

Thanks for letting us know what your doctor recommended. I'm getting magnesium through my daily, but need to see if I need more. Slow release sounds like a good idea. Last night I woke up with the worst leg pain I've ever had. How much magnesium are you planning to take?

What bone meds have you already taken and what is your age?

Fosomax years ago

Reclast twice 2 years ago and this April. I was down like I had an awful flu. Muscle pains, headaches, nausea. For a week. I turned 70 in May.

Yep. I understand that millions of people take it with no side effects. I've read all the positive posts as well as the negative posts.

Delayed Release magnesium was not all that easy to find. I have SlowMag MG which is 143 mg per 2 tablets. Hope this helps

Has anyone had any gastro problems with Reclast? I think I saw some posts awhile back, but can't find them now. I've been having serious bloating for some time, and wonder if the Reclast could be the reason for it. Please post if you've had gastro problems since your Reclast infusion.

@ dingus & @heartfelt70 you are the ones I've been searching for! I've been thinking It was just me. I had my 2nd Reclast infusion on 6/10/24. I had decided not to take it due to the side effects I had with the 1st infusion but in the end I allowed my endocrinologist to talk me into it. I'm so regretting that now. I'm having generalized joint pain, worse in my hips and knees so bad that I can't sleep most nights. I'm having problems with ambulation as well. I'm almost positive it's the Reclast. These issues are relatively new for me and have now been going on for about 5 weeks. I talked to the endocrinologist a couple days ago and she states that it is not the Reclast and I should go see my primary care doc. Very discouraging but not surprised at her response. Where did you find the chlorophyll @heartfelt70? Thanks for your posts!

My endocrinologist wants me to stop the Prolia as I am now have osteopenia not osteoporosis. I did loose my hair , big time. I now wear hats or wigs. Did not have bad side effects that I attributed to Prolia. Anyway , no endocrinologist wants me to start me on IV infusion of Reclast, which he says will last for several years. From what I have been researching, I don't want to be near that stuff. Not sure what to do next.
