Reclast side effects

Posted by dingus @dingus, Aug 15 2:24pm

Does anyone have a solution to combat Reclast side effects. I had the infusion a year and a half ago and the side effects started shortly after I had the infusion. I still have weak legs, swelling in feet, pain in bones, dizziness (serious dizziness), cold sweats, tired all the time and nervous twitching in bones. Any suggestions?

Good morning, just read your article about Reclast infusion. Back in July I was experiencing a lot of pain in my lower back which made me favor my right leg, putting a lot more weight on my left leg. Well, around the 22nd my endocrinologist recommended I have the Reclast infusion and so I had it done that day. The following day both shoulders were extremely sore and my left foot and I could not lift my right arm without help from my left arm. I continued to think it was from the back pain until I was filling out a questionnaire for my physical therapist. As I listed the Reclast infusion, I looked it up and lone and behold! It has been almost three months and the exercise my physical therapist has recommended seems to help but any physical use increases the pain. I have never had any shoulder issues until now. Some time ago I had a Urolift implanted and had what they could remove without cutting into the prostate removed; leaving me with this constant burning sensation, worse after urination. Well the burning did decrease until this infusion, it’s back! Everybody’s body is different, I pray the pain goes away and I’ll not have another infusion! Other symptoms, fatigue, loss of appetite and loss of sleep. The pain seems to get worse after I go to bed; waking 5-6 times throughout the night. Just thought I would share!

Thanks so much for your reply. When you start comparing notes with others on this thread and especially with the 82 year old woman in the Cureus article, there is no doubt that Reclast is the reason for all the pain and other side effects that we are having. I think the shoulder pain is especially telling. Lots of people have knee and hip pain, but shoulder pain is not as common. Yet you and I and the 82 year old woman all have shoulder pain. Reclast is the common denominator. I have all the same side effects you mentioned plus foot pain that is unbearable and several other side effects. The pain seems to bounce around to various parts of my body and the intensity changes, too, from better to worse to better to worse...Thank goodness, or I would not be able to tolerate it. I'm with you. I will not get another infusion.

I have side effects but have no choice. I have to have another infusion or I lose all my gains from 3 years of anabolics that followed 5 years of cancer meds. I consider my side effects to be rare.

I want to emphasize yet again to lurkers or new people that most people I know do fine with Reclast and other osteoporosis meds but they don't come on any forums.

"Lurker" is a common term for people who read forums but aren't posting, yet or ever. In many forums, I think lurkers can be more numerous than active participants. Many forums allow people to read discussions without joining.

Oh gosh, it's horrible we can't get the help when we need it. I'm trying to decide between Reclast and Prolia. But, where do you get the Chlorophyll and how does that help with the side effects of Reclast?

What bone meds have you already taken and what is your age?

@dingus I don't mean to answer for anyone else, but once I am a certain age I would consider Prolia. My friends in their mid-80's are taking it because they assume they won't have to stop! Younger people have to deal with rebound. So age is relevant to discussion.

Both Reclast and Prolia can be taken after other meds so prior meds don't determine the choice for @255anny but we all learn from what others have been doing.

I m curious how others might be handling their drug decisions based on their age and history of other bone meds. I am 76 and have taken forteo, alendronate and Evenity, just had might first shot of prolia but will be telling my Endo that don't want a second shot of prolia. Instead I want another course of Evenity. Like soany others I am trying to buy time until I am 80 then prolia until I die.

@gravity3 me too! I am 74. Maybe you could do Prolia at 85 instead of 80!!!! Let's hope for longer life, though after taking care of my mother, not sure what the best expiration date is for me !
