Lupron side effect: pain in left rib cage that radiates around to back

Posted by woodybear1951 @woodybear1951, Oct 23 11:58am

I had a Lupron shot in August 2024 and again this month. About a week after the shot I experienced extreme pain in my left rib cage that radiates around to my back. Has anyone else experienced this?
X-rays and scans do not show anything in that area. Should I be concerned?

This is quite unusual. I’ve been in advanced prostate cancer two hour meetings almost every week for the last five years. I’ve heard of a lot of people taking Lupron and their reactions, but I’ve never heard of a reaction like you have had.

Is it possible you have pulled a muscle? Lupron weakens your muscles and makes them deteriorate. This is a little too soon for you to have much of a problem due to Lupron, it usually takes longer for your muscles to actually start going Maybe you have had your muscles weakened a little, taking Lupron, and then did something that normally wouldn’t cause a strain but because of the weakened muscles, it did cause a strain.

Lupron gave me bad sciatica. Didn't have pain in my ribs per se but definitely back and side pain.

When I was on Firmagon, most of the time the monthly injection just caused localised swelling, but every once in a while I got unlucky and either the needle or subcutaneous pocket of liquid it left behind nicked something (nerves?, muscles?) and then all hell broke loose.

So glad to be done with all that and on Orgovyx pills now.

I took lupron depot 6 month ago
Still unmotivated and tired, Ed. , testical shrinkage, joint pain.
I decided to pass on meds for the intense hot flashes. On point I wish to make , I gave up agency over myself
When I took the six month injection.
I could have decided on monthly or some bimonthly etc and stopped when I felt that I did not want to continue
With the hormone therapy.
I’m hoping the side effects from this will dissipate soon.
I’m already feeling much better after the SBRT.

A couple days ago I posted I guess I'm used to getting the Firmagon shot. And then I got the next shot. Next couple days were quite the ride. Has to be short term memory loss. Sometimes I can't believe I forget how some of these meds make me feel. I thought you made a funny when you posted the shot lasts for 29 days, you didn't add the part about then we start over again. LOL I apologize for going off track here. Best to all.

I'm sorry you had a rough one this month. I find I'm tolerating ADT much better with a daily microdose via pill rather than a monthly megadose via injection, but everyone responds differently, which is why both options exist.

All sorts of side effects from Lupron or Eligard. Many joint, muscle aches, very poor sleep,
some heart flutter, etc. After my last shot, I developed a hoarse voice! All the oncologist said
was "No one likes the ADT stuff". That was it.

As to the hoarse voice, not sure it's the same but one of my meds gives me shortness of breath. I now spend most times breathing through my mouth, leading to drying out my mouth and changing my voice. I'm not gasping for air by any means and when sleeping breathe through my nose. As to the other sides, yeah I get them too. Best to all.

I have been on LUPRON for 1.5 years. I have constant weakness, especially in the legs, that makes it difficult to climb stairs and walk long distances. This weakness didn't hit until after the first 5-6 months. I also am on Zytiga (Abiraterone), which is adding to the pain and weakness. While it is debilitating, life is still too good, so I deal with the discomfort. I take medical marijuana tinctures (.5ml CBD: .2ml TCH) to help with the pain, which helps.
—no high or euphoria.
