Anyone had swelling of ankles/feet and calves with neuropathy?

Posted by kevinversace55 @kevinversace55, Feb 3 9:27am

I had a cervical laminectomy and fusion Of C3 to C5 and now have neuropathy that started in my feet within the first two weeks after the surgery and has continually gotten worse and now has gone all the way to my knees. Burning, tingling, and some numbness, Neurologist has done nothing but meds. Gabapentin and lacosamide and no relief found yet. Currently trying infrared lights and just walking. I really don't know what to do and who to see but I surely do need some relief from this. All surgeon that did the op says is its residual nerve damage from the op. ??? Any info and suggestions will be appreciated.

Weakness in my arms, hands and legs. By the time I had the surgery I was almost dragging my left leg. Now have weakness issues in my arms and legs, balance issues, and can no longer hold my urine or hold my bowels sometimes. Also it doesn't help that my lower back is very weak and i have sort of lost my desire to try and exercise. Thanks for your suggestions. It is much appreciated.

If you haven’t had a neurologist test you with EMGs, nerve conduction studies, MRIs, MRNs (to map and check nerve damage/function) plus the small fiber biopsy since your surgery, it would be good to do this to determine the source of your neurological symptoms to determine treatment options (not just medications). If your CNS/PNS is being compressed/pinched, you want to prevent further, permanent damage. I need to be tested for MS, CIDP, MSA and neurogenic orthostatic hypotension to see what is causing my constellation of symptoms. I am really struggling with extreme exhaustion/fatigue, limb weakness, balance/dizziness, visual challenges (hard to focus eyes/read), numbness and pain in my arms/hands/legs/feet. I seem to have flares of worsening symptoms and not sure the trigger (autoimmune, virus, etc.). I do believe viruses that lay dormant in your nerve ganglia (EBV, HSV, COVID, etc.) can cause many health issues and symptoms over time.

Keep in mind that a dose of floroquinoline antibiotics even just one pill even over a year later can manifest into peripheral neuropathy plus so much more horrendous and annoying symptoms. Usually symptoms are set off by NSAIDS or many many other things.

Are you also possibly a victim of floroquinoline poisoning known as Floxing? Cipro or maybe Levoquin even taken years ago? Your symptoms art point on.

I never knew about this and believe I was prescribed this medication when really sick a couple times the last few years (went to a walk in clinic). I had many symptoms starting in 2017 and things started to get worse in 2019, 2021 and 2023. The COVID shots in 2021 caused new symptoms and I got COVID in 2022 and now believe I have long COVID symptoms (the medicine they gave me was horrendous).

I have severe neuropathy in my feet, getting milder as it goes up my shins. And mild neuropathy in my hands. Only swelling I have is in my right calf. Had it the whole time. Nothing seems to work

Hi @kevinversace55 and all you guys,
Reading everything of what you guys write. This started last February 2024. I read some problems…
A) Swelling from lower legs & feet
B) Bad surgery and is more & continues
C) Nerve damage
D) Fusions more than one
E) Use compression socks (up to knees or higher)
F) Burning feet
G) Medical pills

For me, I fell down in my garage and hit my rear-ends on my wooden steps. Well, the next few weeks, the pain was killing my rear-ends, back legs, and feet. No more cutting our grass; no more walking the 20 minute thing; no more standing up when exercising my top body; no more picking up my lights; killing my balance too easy if falling down, and on…

Yes, that was a bad problem on the middle to down to my feet. Last February, I had a surgery in my back nerve that hit my bone under close the bitten back. He fixed this. The pain is gone - no meds. Yes, oh, yes I’m a TBI member from a bicycle accident 12 years ago. I lost a lot of this, but the 2 years ago was a falling down in my garage.

My meds are not for pain. Yes, I use some people use for pain meds (made in the early 90s) but I needed this 3 times a day that helps my anti-seizer (same meds ‘til used in 2001 or so) ==> GABAPENTIN.

Thx all,

Same here with me.
My feet are totally numb and it travels up my legs to my thighs.
My right ankle and lower leg is swollen constantly.
Even tried a diuretic and that didn’t help alleviate the swelling.
About 5 yrs ago I did break that ankle and I had many surgeries with pins and screws inserted.
Maybe that’s why it still swells

I have edema in my feet and legs. I've had it for 5+ years. I get lymphatic massages every other week, then compression treatments on the off weeks. I have also started sleeping with my feet on a pillow to help the fluid drain out of my feet and lower legs. It helps. I do not wear compression hose.
I don't have a lot of pain with my neuropathy so I don't take pain meds, but I have yet to find a doctor who cares about it once I tell them I'm not diabetic.
