Lymphedema ByPass Surgery

Posted by dmosssadler @dmosssadler, Oct 21 11:04am

Hello,

Has anyone had a Lymphedema ByPass surgery after removal of lymph Nodes to help with lymphedema after lympectomy for Breast Cancer?

Due to swelling in my Lt. Arm & breast my breast surgeon said it's an option to help with lymphedema.

Any feedback will be great. Thank you

I only had few lymph nodes removed and have not had any problems with lymphedema. Hopefully others who have had the surgery can comment with their experience.

Have you tried other therapies for you lymphedema like massage?

Hello @dmosssadler there is a pretty lively conversation about all of this, including links for types of surgery, here is a link.

If you are considering surgery this must be a burden for you, I believe you can find common ground with others in this discussion.

Hi there. I just had this surgery 2 wks ago today. Left side. I was told there is no down side to having this done. This is my 2nd surgery since late August. The first surgery they took one lymphnode to check it and it did have C. I DID experience some lymphedema with taking just the one. They said this was rare. With this 2nd surgery they took 7 lymph nodes and did the bypass, these were free of C. Post opp appt today surgeons say I’m healing very well. You will have to where a drain(s) more than likely. I’ve got 1 inplace and it will be removed tomorrow. Hope this info helps you. It is relatively new where I live it’s only been around about six months. Best of luck to you and God bless

@luckygodblessed62, what a helpful post for @dmosssadler.

I'm glad to hear that you're healing well. It must feel good to have had the drain removed. How are you doing now? What is one thing you wished you had known before the procedure?
