Anyone had cancer return while taking hormone therapy meds?

Has anyone had their BC return even though they are taking Tamoxifen or an A1?

i had 3 weeks of radiation five days a week , it went very well, very easy . like sunburn at end but totally manageable with creams . the unknown is always the worse . and it helps kill off any stray cancers cells . all the best

I was diagnosed with bc in 2022 in Kansas City. They took X-rays for years and said all they say was a shadow and didn’t do a biopsy for three years. When they went in I had full blown cancer which was hormonal aggressive. They removed the cancer. But because they didn’t anticipate cancer they had to go back and take lymph nodes which showed they got it all for now. I had a choice of hormone therapy and radiation. The radiation doctor tried to convince me that I should take radiation for a medical trial and that there were no side effects. He said my age group which is 70 had not been researched. I found that he was wrong and he could have financially benefit. So far I am free from cancer but am suffering from the effects of the drug.
I now live in Jacksonville Fl. And wonder if I should have done the radiation for 5 days a week for 5 weeks like he wanted. He said there were no side effects at all.

There are side effects to everything! And no guarantees! We make the best choice we can with the information we have at the time. These are tough decisions. I wish you well 💗

I had side effects and mine was only 5 days during 1 week. It doesn´t mean that you are going to have side effects because everyone is different but I think is good that doctors set the right expectations from the begining.

Asking for a second medical opinion I think is always a smart decision. Best wishes for you! @jesusmaryjoseph77

I just read your posting as I get ready for my first radiation treatment.
I’m more nervous about this than I was about the biopsy and surgery. Your post encouraged me so much. Thank you!

I had radiation 5 days a week for 3 weeks and still had a recurrence 2.5 yrs later (local recurrence). Is not always effective, apparently.

I do want to make sure to understand when people are talking about a local recurrence vs stage 4 metastasis. Some of us don't have breasts anymore so the main concern is stage 4! (Yes I still do manual exam in what was once the breast area....)

Did you have to get the breast removed since you had a recurrence in the same breast? What stage were you at diagnosis?

I was stage 1 and yes had to have left mastectomy due to recurrence in same breast, tumor was near skin surface, very close to original tumor spot.
