Has anyone improved bone density without meds?
I have a very problematic dental history and will continue to need additional root canals and implants. I also have Sjogren's Syndrome and want to avoid any drugs that cause rheumatic symptoms. Other issues in my health history make all of the meds risky for me. That said, I work out almost daily, lift weights, maintain a healthy diet, take all the recommended supplements, and get most of my calcium nutritionally. My endocrinologist wants me to take an infusion/injectable drug. I dread the side-effects, yet I'm afraid of fracturing, which hasn't happened over the many years I have had osteoporosis. That said, my numbers are getting worse (-3.2 spine, -3.1 hip). I need to do something more than I've been doing, and am at a loss. I need hope and solutions I can be at peace with. Yes I am and that is how I got to Osterpenia and out of Osteoperosis. I don't mind...just get something to dring and play on my PC while downing all of them. Not a problem for me.
seen it ill advised to take more calcium than is needed..., 5200 mgs is over the top from what I have seen. Also, it is advised to take the calcium throughout the day, and no more than 500mg each time. sorry, i can't put sources.., I don't recall.., but they are those I trust. Prob Michael Gregor MD is among them. Do a google search to see what others say who you respect.
My doctor says Prolia affects the kidneys and to take vitamin D and sunshine. My GFR dropped drastically after a Prolia injection. Also not to take ibuprofen.
I am trying something that involves only three supplements so far, prescribed by a doctor, based on test results. Most research only checks to see if a drug or supplement regime works after a year. I am not that far along for this three-supplement regime. When I am a year in, hopefully I'll have some good news to share.
Has the walking and vibration plate increased any of your numbers? That would be good to know for all of us. Thank you for sharing.
I really empathize with you. I have reasons for not wanting to take the drugs either! I made good improvements to my BMD for 4 years, using only dietary changes, walking/jogging, and weight training. At my most recent scan, I showed loss again. So I know it's possible, but I have to figure out what happened in the last two years. BTW, it seems to me that a scan every two years is no where near sufficient!
My grandmother broke her hips and ribs without falling and my mother broke her hips without falling and refused any medications. I eat healthy, exercise...you know all the things we are supposed to and still have osteoporosis at 60. I cannot take the pills because of issues. I started Reclast infusions 4 years ago. It took 2 years for my numbers to increase a little and now my job is to maintain those numbers. I have had 2 infusions and will have another one next year. The only issue was I felt like I had the flu for a couple of days. I will put up with that to have the results of my recent scan. I lost no height and no reduction in bone mass since the second infusion. We all have to do what works best for us. I hope you find some drug support that helps you maintain.
Took recommended amount of Dr. McCormick's Osteo Naturals Fortibone daily for 18 months. Then got another DEXA scan, and ALL my scores were worse. Otherwise healthy, taking supplements and exercising daily. I was very disappointed with the results, so stopped taking Fortibone since it was costly and did nothing to improve my osteoporosis.
If one carefully looks at the studies, they compared a specific product, Fortibone, to a placebo. The same benefits might or might not be obtained with any other, less expensive, hydrolyzed collagen peptides.
I did carefully look at studies in the US and Europe before determining that Fortibone offered the best chance of success. I don’t believe hydrolyzed collagen peptides are effective for everyone, and they certainly weren’t for me.
