I must say I don't want surgery either! But I have been on conservative treatment since May of 2023 with partial tears and pain. Then 3 weeks ago 3 places freakishly tore completely when putting a 12 oz can on a shelf. I decided I want my life back! So finally at 73 I'm having surgery in 10 days. Like @catartist I want to be able to paint, combined my own hair and do you own chores.
Sometimes after all other avenues are tried surgery is needed.
the steroids i had to take for 30 years to stay active (low doses most of the time) caused the deterioration of my ligaments, tendons and muscles now. I am addicted to Prednison- 5 is lowest I am a poor candidate for surgery too because of the RA and Prednisone, but to continue to move my upper body, take care of myself, function I don;t see I have a choice now. If I live long enough, I will no doubt end up in a wheel chair (hard to walk now) and I need my arms. other shoulder has a almost full tear too but PT was able to bring motion back real well....can't lift even jars, cups etc. well tho' I am hearing that this reverse shoulder replacement work VERY WELL and much improves function. So I have to trust (good Dr. I hear) here's to our future!
The deciding factor was seeing the NRI and realizing how torn up it was - no chance of healing on its own. It’s my right dominant arm and I won’t function or paint without repair. Shoot me now! So if all else is ok I will attempt this well received repair. 🤞
