Here is my Mayo art appreciation lesson. My first visit to ENT on the 12th floor Gonda came after a tongue cancer diagnosis. I was so scared. I was told to wait at the far end by the "C" door. As I approached that area I noticed the large stained glass mosaics on the walls of birch trees, sky, clouds, etc. I immediately started to cry. My husband inquired and I said look at the wall. He cried, too. You see, I am a stained glass mosaic artist! My subject matter is birds, wildflowers, trees, etc around my Wisconsin home. It was as if they chose that art just for me. I always make it a point to notice the art now. So does my husband.

That's a powerful story. I hope everything went well with your cancer.
