Should I get 2nd opinion on tumor?

Hello Folks,

A few months ago I received a mammogram and needed ultrasound due to extreme density. When receiving my first ultrasound they found a questionable area. They had me come in for a second ultrasound and told me it was a tumor. The radiologist says "I do not know what type of tumor it is, but I know it's not cancer." Right now it is the size of a pea. They did not biopsy it or mark it. Should I get a second opinion? I have breast cancer in my family and it made me uneasy when he couldn't name what I have.

Welcome to Mayo Connect, I think most people in this group will agree with @rosa1935 that a 2nd opinion and a biobsy would be a good idea. Even a MRI if you insurance will approve.

Seeing you have dense breast and a family history of breast cancer, this should not be ignored.

You might talk to your primary provider or if you have a gynecologist about scheduling a biobsy.

Is there a Breast Clinic in your area you can make an appointment at?

I agree with the others. You should definitely get another opinion. I don't know how the radiologist can say with certainty that it is not cancer. My understanding is that the only way to determine if a malignancy exists is to put the tissue under a microscope. Laurie mentioned going to a Breast Clinic which is an excellent idea.

Yes you should get a second opinion because they should do a biopsy to make sure it’s benign. My tumor or lump was the size of a pea as well. He came back cancerous. I had the lump removed and 3 lymph nodes removed to be sure it didn’t spread. Breast cancer runs in my family too.

My doctor told me I should have it removed because of my family history. I had a first cousin do a double mastectomy a couple of years ago. I just did it to take care of it as early as possible so it doesn’t spread.

Absolutely!!!!!!!! Get a biopsy. Dont take a chance!! Don’t follow blindly what Dr’s say. I know of a woman that was told just wait and watch until she was 4th stage.
