Orange peel skin...22 years post diagnosis 8 years post last surgery

Hi
I'm a 22 year BC survivor. Diagnosed at 35. Lumpectomy, Radiation, Tamoxifen
12 years later Atypical cells in other breast
Mastectomy
Reconstruction with skin and nipple preservation
I've noticed orange peel and change in on 1 breast. I first thought it is just changes due to 8 years post reconstruction surgery ... but had some sharp sting pains similar to mastitis or ductal inflammation lately. It is not persistent and comes and goes maybe 6 times in a week. Less now. But orange peel remains.

Welcome to Mayo Connect,

I would definitely get it checked out.

What type of breast cancer monitoring do you have done since your mastectomy and reconstruction?

REPLY

There is a breast cancer called Peau d'orange because it resembles orange peel.
Best to see an oncologist. Hoping this may be nothing, but you have to be sure.

The first 15 years I did check ups mammograms and CT scans I think even a few MRIs.
Since I had the mastectomy and reconstruction I have only gone back for ultrasounds twice.

I've moved 1400km away from my surgeon and my oncologist relocated to Australia so I need to start with a new dr in Somerset.

I seem to have a weird sagging and wrinkled part on my lower breast it is possible it's just because I'm getting older and the reconstructed breasts skin is also getting older.

I seen to have sagging wrinkled skin now on the one breast..it may also be because I'm getting older. The orange peel is just on a portion. I'll make an appointment.

I seem to have stinging sensations in my left breast not often. But still similar to what I had when they found the atypical cells

Inflammatory Breast Cancer can cause orange peel texture, and also be mistaken for mastitis. Please get in to get checked, the sooner the better.

@mjaneibcwarrior, welcome. I see from your username that you are a bcwarrior. Do you have inflammatory breast cancer?

I noticed this was a few weeks ago and you were having to get started with a new doctor. Always a challenge, but I was wondering if you got that breast checked out yet. What you are describing has got to be a little frightening for you. Especially with a BC history.
Have you seen a doctor? How are you doing?

Hi Chris, I've been flat for two days with very bad uncontrollable diarhoea. Really battled for three days to just control my bowls. I'm back at work and careful what I eat and drink. Not sure if I had a bit if food poisoning. Historicly I used to battle with constipation but recently I seem to get diarhoea more often. Thus was the first time in my life that it's been uncontrollable.

I will be traveling for work but plan to see Dr as soon as I'm back end next week.
