Gallbladder removal: What can I expect?

Any info from folks who’ve had gall bladder removed would be appreciated. Surgery coming up soon. Especially interested in diet tips for first few weeks and whether you did or did not suffer from diarrhea at first or continuing. Thanks in advance.

I had my gallbladder removed in June. Prior to the surgery I had issues with diarrhea. Now I suffer from chronic constipation.
Obviously each person is going to react differently. I am a vegetarian and don’t eat anything friend or high in fat/sugar. The surgery itself, which was Davinci, went well. Recovery was easy for me just had fatigue no pain really.

I had my gallbladder out seven years ago. I had no choice as it was ‘full of stones and sludge’ as the doctor said. Surgery was easy. Recovery quick. I was back at work two days later. I didn’t seem to have any ill effects from not having a gallbladder. But…everyone is different.

I had my gall bladder removed in March of 2023. I did have some complications which included needing to wait for 6 months while recovering from a mild heart attack before having the surgery due to blood thinners. Also had to have a drain for about a month. Until recently I would get intermittent bouts of extreme diarrhea. I am finally feeling better. What seems to have really helped is taking one dose of metamucil in the morning and 2 pills of prescribed cholestipol per day. I also have to severely restrict fried, fatty, and sugary foods.

I had my gallbladder removed over 30 years ago and no problems with surgery but thereafter had diarrhea, especially when traveling, it seemed as the motion caused a flare up. However, after having back surgery 2 years ago, and terrible reaction to anesthesia and IV pain meds, have had issues with constipation. Would go back and forth with diarrhea/constipation went on cholestipol (low dose one per day, sometimes two if flare up) and can now travel but still some issues with constipation and hemorrhoids. Sitz baths help as hemorrhoid surgery out of question at my age. I am able to travel a bit if watch what I eat, small portions, etc. Also some exercises I learned from PT after surgery helps with constipation, and will probably continue for rest of life.

Gallbladder removed 2022 because of large stone. Never experienced any negative effects following surgery, in fact, still today I have not noticed any difference!

I did not have appetite for 3 months and lost 15 lbs.

Had mine out 10 years ago. It was septic (I was septic?), so it greatly affected the h. Pylori ulcer.
I had no after effects other than from the 3 courses of antibiotics for the ulcer. Still could not eat sugary treats. No concerns with fried foods or anything else. In the last year I have had to take a digestive enzyme with most meals, especially if the meal includes butter (I only consume organic, grass fed). 🤷‍♂️

@msvjv I had my gallbladder removed laparoscopically around 1994 and couldn’t eat any fried foods for several years after. Anything I ate that was fried, sat in my stomach like a huge rock for several hours after eating so that was enough to turn me off fried foods!

I have started eating fried foods in recent years, however, and can tolerate them - as long as I limit my intake - whereas in past years even two or three bites of fries were difficult to digest.

I had Gallbladder removed in 2/24, I have pain that moves around to certain incision points, its as though as food moves through my intestines and passes incision points I get pain for a while. Wondering if this could be caused by a hernia in the wall of certain incisions. Possibly because of lifting things to soon after surgery.
