blood pressure medicines: losartan, 50 mg. and Olmesartan

Posted by lilyann @lilyann, Oct 8 4:40am

hi all, lilyann here. husband was taking losartan, 50 mg. gave him headaches and sick to stomach. so dr. wants to put him on olmesartan, gosh, the side effects to these drugs. i know the old saying that sometimes the cure is worst than the condition, but, they say to take in the morning but if they cause dizziness i think evening would be better especially if you have dr. appt.'s and all. so before we pick up the expensive olmesartan, could someone makes some sense of it all. yes, my husband has now come up with the high blood pressure, at home it is lower than at the dr.'s office but so i do understand the outcome of high blood pressure. right now, he is on doxycycline for cellulitis, suffering with the lymphedema, statis dermatitis. so putting these conditions together its bound to raise the blood pressure. i welcome any and all comments. how many agree with me on the taking it at night? how many agree with me with all that he has going on for being the reason the blood pressure is so high? that cellulitis is so itchy in itself, red, hot inflamed skin, swollen legs and so you can imagine just not feeling up to par but you have to go and see the dr. anyway. anyone else taking any of these drugs and not to mention how the first one he wanted to give him had been taken off the market, i think at one time 3 blood pressure drugs have been on the list. so for a medicine to cause hives, swelling and a number of other side effects, it is puzzling to the mind as to what to do. granted, if we do not get his blood pressure down, it means heart attack or stroke. right now with the ekg. is fine, along with listening to his heart and lungs. all is good. blood pressure ranging from the 170/82 - 200/94. have a great day everyone, i, myself, today have to go see the oncologist. our social life is great with the dr.'s. onward, forward, outward,

Hi,
I'm taking my BP med at nights for exactly the same reasons. I'm on the last known BP meds which I have to tolerate as without it I have 24/7 intensive migraines. With the meds I feel off colour to say the least and have constant headaches and they want me to increase the dose, sure! I still run high BP in a similar range and have done so for over 40 years, recorded, but I run up to and including 240/120 quite regularly and nothing can bring it down. I have been promised a heart attack or a stroke but am yet to have one. I have an enlarged heart which seems to concern the Dr's, getting that much use to pump high pressures it could only get stronger and larger than "normal" anyway, like any muscle does from vigarous exercise.
The problem with medication is they all have side effects, the difference being if you can tolerate them or not. Then they try to medcate out the medication side effects for me, compounding the problems.
I refuse to medicate to be "normal" when all they do is make me ill. A lot of medication makes me sicker than the symptoms they are trying to medicate for.
I have and incurable and untreatable disease so trying to make me healthy for this disease to destroy me anyway, seems stupidity to me.
Cheers

I take a small dose of Olmesartan at bedtime, according to my primary. It works great for me. As I lost weight and got more fit with exercise, he’s reduced the dose twice. Before long, I probably won’t need it at all. But, if I do I will take it. Elevated BP for long periods of time can cause many health issues, like kidney disease. There are many options of meds, so I’d keep trying.

My mom has issues with every medication she takes, including vitamins. It’s due to her health and medication anxiety. It’s very distressing to her. She resists treatment for it. Sadly, she’s suffering from painful and disabling conditions due to her refusal to take meds and vitamins prescribed by her doctors.
