Symptoms of osteoporosis
Hello
Just wondered what symptoms were experienced before bone density test in general for osteoporosis and if anyone had joint pain in all joints that came suddenly ?
Thank you

My Gyn also told me no need until 65. My PCP and I then discussed, and she ordered it based on the justification that I have a thin frame (weight less than 127 lbs or BMi less than 21 for this purpose) and am post menopause. Insurance paid, and I was diagnosed with osteoporosis at 52. Had I taken my gyn’s advice, I would not have known until much later and more bone lost. Perhaps your doc can get approval if you identify risk factors (thin frame, family history, certain meds, maybe others). If not, it could be well worth it to pay out of pocket if you are able. At the facility I went to, the cost would have been less than $500.
@snowmass Dr. McCormick is a chiropractor and does not prescribe.
The meds you see discussed here so often rebuild bone density. Unfortunately, one med typically has to be followed by another. There's no silver bullet yet. "Buy time" just means reversing the bone loss trend.
Oh, yes, I misspoke. I meant he can order lab tests in all but three states. Prescribing meds, no.
I believe he would have to be licensed in PA to prescribe tests.
"In Pennsylvania, only licensed healthcare practitioners are legally permitted to order laboratory tests. This includes physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals who have the authority to diagnose and treat patients.
As for DCs, their scope of practice primarily focuses on chiropractic care and manipulation of the musculoskeletal system. While they may have limited lab ordering rights related to their area of expertise, the extent of their authority to order laboratory tests may be more restricted compared to medical doctors."
Thank you for explaining, now I understand better.
Thank you. I agree with you and i will ask my new primary doctor especially now that i am post menopausal also.
Are you on hormone replacement?
How long have you been post menopausal? Sorry if I already asked. I am lost in the thread.
