I initially asked wondering if there is a reason for the specific statin you are taking, understanding there are several but they all are a bit different. I just switched from rosuvastatin to atorvastatin so your comment peaked my curiosity. My LDL is elevated but triglycerides are fine. My cardiologist has been concerned about heart failure. I have been focused on diet, exercise and reducing stress. I am at a more stable place now and we are trying to get my pesky LDL down.

Thank you for your explanations. I hadn’t connected plaque as a cause of high blood pressure. I have been focused on thinking my blood pressure is a metric I can watch to see how well I am reducing my stress, short-sighted now I see. I assume this refers to stable plaque stiffening the walls and not the unstable type getting moved around? Or maybe both?

I am learning my liver functions atypically and also have not appreciated its role. All of this (with maybe more) presents in a systemic way so it does not feel straight-forward to me. I am ultimately trying to find a comfort level with what I understand to be able to be confident in my priorities and best communicate with the people around me. Thanks for your nuggets of information and sharing your positive approach.

This comes from my urologist, electrophysiologist, and heart failure (HF) doctors addressing my health journey with these issues. I was told my statin would reduce LDL. It did and way below goal numbers. Per my Catherizations and CT/Contrast do show plaque in arteries. However since being put on statin in 2015 the latest CT/Contrast showed the plaque had not increased and no need for stent.

My HF doctor put me on fish oil years ago. He said would help with triglycerides. It did indeed and cut it in half. Again my specific case.

You can have blood pressure issues and not have plaque in our arteries. Per my cardiologist many things can cause BP to rise. I was told my BP needs to be under control to help prevent my heart failure from getting worse. My HF stated when BP goes up the heart needs to pump harder to get blood flow. Over time the heart will get bigger under this stress and can lead to heart failure of over sized heart ventricles.

I take entresto and carvedilol. They indeed keep my BP low. Sometimes too low 89,90 over 50. My doctors continue to talk to me about this especially any signs of dizziness. We discussed if continues might separate the time I take each medication.

I have read those who have really back side affects from Entresto and/or Carvedilol. I can say yes I did when first started taking it. I complained to my cardiologist extreme fatigue and aching like had flu. Was told it would take weeks for my body to adjust to it.

So I stuck is our even though it was really hard to put up with. But weeks later it did get better and now after being on both drugs for over 20 years no side affects. Again my journey with BP, medications, etc.
