Mayo Clinic Jacksonville RT

Does anyone know whether Mayo Jacksonville offer MRgRt (elekta Unity) and/or Proton therapy?

I know they have proton at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. The proton Dr. Nathan Yu will know if they have the MRgRt (electa Unity).

ripleymo, I quite liked dr. Yu. I had a teleconference with him because he has a california license.
I'd been completely misled by intake coordinators into thinking that Mayo was using the MRIdian Viewray. You may want to check out the Viewray if you are thinking of the 5 fraction radiation.

Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville does not have proton radiation treatments. They have photon.

They are building a new cancer center which will have proton radiation. I had all my test done at Mayo Jacksonville in 2023 and them met with R/O (Mayo) they explain only photon radiation SBRT was availabe and that same outcomes were identical to both.

Big difference is that Proton does not go through body like Photon nor is the incoming radiation level the same. So I got a second opinion with UFHPTI and they are experts in proton radiation and have been doing them since 2006. They had 5 gantries and the most updated equipment and techs.

Mayo Jacksonville radiation treatment is outstanding it that I wanted to have the least amount of secondary radiation damage as I could and that was proton. Even my primary care doctor (Mayo) agreed this was really the only difference in the successful treatment of prostrate cancer using proton or photon radiation. They outcomes are identical in terms of successful treatments.

Proton radiation: I spent 2.5 months at Loma Linda Hospital near Riverside, California in 2010. As I understand, the cost of building a proton radiation system will exceed $200 million USD. Or, more. Hence, the reason why there are so few in the US. Initially, so I was told proton radiation was used for brain cancer in children. It was then used later for prostate cancer. I understand the time frame has changed.

In the mornings awaiting "my turn", several men in smocks would gather in the waiting room to be called. So, most of us had some conversations. Many of the patients were physicians. This validated my decision to select proton radiation over the other options. Make every effort to explore the options. Mayo or Cleveland Clinic would be two excellent choices.

ripleymo I misthought that you were referring to Mayo in Arizona. Apologies.

@ripleymo, welcome. Allow me to clarify. Radiation treatment is available at all 3 Mayo Clinic campuses in Arizona, Florida and Minnesota. Proton beam therapy is currently available at Mayo Clinic in Arizona and Minnesota.

Mayo Clinic's proton beam facility at the Jacksonville campus is currently under construction. The Jacksonville, Florida proton beam facility will open in 2026.

If proton beam therapy is recommended by Mayo experts, then the team can work with University of Florida department or Florida patients can choose to have proton beam therapy at the Rochester, Minnesota campus.

Has proton beam therapy been recommended for you?

Awaiting biopsy results and investigating possible RT treatments. NO SURGERY.
Thanks.
