Brachytherapy: Regrets & Why ?
Just learned today that my lead-up to HD Brachytherapy is scheduled.
I don't like the sound of having a Perineum "Surgery" to insert 20 needles to implant seeds ..... BUT
What worries me most is 6 weeks of daily high beam external Radiation and all that could/will come from that !?
Help me get my head around this, that I may make my best decision based on "the whole story" and not incomplete and ommitted information, please!
Who's had it, and who regrets it, and why?

I found this to be one of the best educational videos regarding the effectiveness of HDR Brachytherapy. Again, not for everyone but felt it was my best option.
Brachytherapy radiation only without ebrt following.
Very interesting and was not aware that such was available as an option.
Can you inform as to what lead you to this decision and were doctors agreeable or reluctant in acceptance of your decision?
My continued thanks to you! PAUL
It was a long journey. Initially, I had narrowed it down to two options: permanent seed (LDR) brachytherapy or a radical prostatectomy. I’m thankful for the delay caused by insurance issues (delays and denials), as it gave me more time to research and led me to a new set of doctors. I ultimately ruled out the radical prostatectomy due to the potential long-term side effects, and because the doctors were hesitant given my multiple hernia repairs with mesh, which would have complicated the procedure.
My new cancer doctors introduced me to the benefits of HDR brachytherapy, both short- and long-term. At the same time, there was a trial study available to me that consisted of one HDR brachytherapy treatment followed by 21 EBRT sessions, along with a testosterone blocker. After extensive discussions with my medical team, we agreed that this approach might be excessive for my situation. The video I posted above helped validate my decision. Although only time will tell.
I will watch the video again.
I was somewhat distracted during the first viewing.
I have been studying and researching my options since I woke up today. I do this to some degree everyday.
I have become obsessed with making my decision for upcoming treatment by the time of my next Oncologist conversation on 10/9.
I'm going to do something even if it involves something risky or questionable. It's in my DNA to take chances.
I was stage 4 colon cancer with metastasized lung cancer and had resections to both, and refused chemo and radiation.
So far all is good after 29 months of blood tests and CT Scans only, as followup every 3 and 4 months. My quality of life has been like nothing ever changed or happened! .....until we found prostate cancer that is unrelated to anything else.
I drove race cars for nearly 40 years,
( thus my avatar photo ), so I have a natural tendency to go where others would never consider.
My good, or bad decision will be of help to others as I will post my results here in coming weeks and months.
Thanks
PAUL
