What do I do now?

Posted by cecelia19 @cecelia19, Oct 1 9:54pm

I just saw someone post about the bad side of Gabapentin but it is the only thing that is helping with my pain, taking 300mg 3x/day. I am in pure panic mode again and don’t know where to turn. Someone help me with something positive. Anything. I don’t know how or if I can go on. I saw a psychologist today to help me how to cope with the prospect of a lifetime of pain but she wasn’t much help. It isn’t her fault, I don’t think anything can help me. I am so sorry for sounding so down but I am truly struggling and don’t know where to turn.

Dear @cecelia19
I’ve read that pain, panic mode, bad side, try coping… Our human-life is not easy; some worse or some better.

+++ FOR ME… +++
You take the pain meds; i using ofba large use of this meds; I need it 3 times a day to stop seizer - I need to be an anti-seizer of this med. I had a bicycle accident, one block to my house that caused a TBI member. My life changed 12 years ago.

How about my PAIN? There was no pain until 2 years ago an fell down in my garage wooden-steps; on my 2 rear-ends hit-over-hit and can’t do walking a couple blocks; no more cutting our grass; no more working good thangs outside; no more a lot of thangs.

But, recently a few mths ago, I had a surgery on the back bottom of my read-end. After that, the -pain- is gone! He moved a Nerve back to before that fall-down.

+++ FOR YOU… +=
You know of your “problems” and your needs & feeling - of your body & mind. You wrote this. And folks here have different ways that would help you. You can ask other professional users of what you can and want and how. There’s ideas here. Ask…

Thx,
Greg D. @greg1956

That's an amazing story of revovery. So glad for you. I. too, fell on my back and butt quite hard about seven years ago. The only thing that has never been resolved is the feeling in by butt that something is awry. Feels like I am sitting on something hard. Even with injections helping overall back pain somewhat, I was still aware of the feeling in my butt. I am wondering if I have the same nerve associated problem that you had. How did your do come to determine that is was a displaced nerve? I have had numerous MRIs, but a displaced nerve was never mentioned. Please get back to me. I am somewhat desperate to find an answer to my ongoing pain.
Thanks

I have taken Gabapentin for 5 years since being diagnosed with CKD. I take it as needed, 300mg 3 times a day.
I take it when I have a gout flareup (gout can be a side effect of CKG). I usually take it for 2-3 weeks and then stop cold turkey. All I can say, is I've had zero (0) side effects. I hope this helps, but each individual may react differently.

Hi @heisenberg34
You said, “… to determine that is was a displaced nerve?”.

There’s a reason or reasonS… over that 2 years ago, I went…

+++ 1st Times +++
(1st time) Went to my family doctor & it’s worse & worse pain. Sadly, the blood under my skin of my rear-ends didn’t show him and kept my clothes on. He took me to another healthful business was really close.

+++ 2nd Time +++
(2nd time) Past my family doctor to next #2. I had pulled my rear-ends pants to get a shot against pain supposedly. She just said, “There’s inside blood inside you (my rest-ends). Did you call Dr. Robison?” No, daggoneit…

Her shorts were terrible. Pains gone - for a few days - but feeling of my legs, there no feeling of my muscle, bone, toes. I hatted that. It was gone a week later.

+++ 3rd and Final Time +++
(3rd time one year later) My family doctor sent my pain-needs to another doctor for “nerve” of the back & neck. [12 years ago, that doctor took place of the body that happened during my bicycle accident that became a TBI member.]

+++ How Did He… +++
He took photos on my lower-back, just above my rear-ends. He found one of a big nerve. He gave me choices: 1. Keep it as it is; 2. Try new meds that could help me; 3. How about a surgery?

+++ Chose Surgery +++
I choice surgery last February. He saw a nerve - a big one - that’s next on my bone. He had to move it back, after falling down from my 2 year inside our garage (not 12 year thing). I went an stayed 5 days and it got better… each day. When I got home, no more meds and no more pain… ( just I use anti-seizer for the last 12 yrs).

Thx,
Greg D. @greg1956

Thanks for your reply. It was challenging to decipher your message. I guess what you are telling me is that years after your accident, a doctor was operating on you and saw the large nerve that was out of place. He then managed to put it back in place.
If not for the surgery, you might still be in pain. I would almost be willing to undergo surgery to see if I have a similar problem.

It is I again. I meant to ask you: was that large nerve that the surgeon moved the sciatic nerve?
Thanks. Keep well.

It certainly does help. One of the things I was afraid of is being addicted, although my neurologist PA said that it was no longer a controlled substance. It is good to know that you don’t have withdrawal even when you abruptly stop taking it. Thank you!

How many of you take Pregabalin and which has proven to be the best with drowsiness fatigue and pain Pregabalin vs Gabapentin??

Hi @heisenberg34

+++ MY NERVE TYPE WAS… +++
The words, large nerve… was a “sciatic nerve” that was true. Think about what he did… on that day, early morn at the hospital, took longer than he sought. It took him 8+ hours, according my wife says. There was problems inside my back; the reason, the same thing, 25 years ago.

+++ 25 YEARS AGO… +++
That doctor, back then, “fixed” the same thing on my back, but the difference I had to stop outside running, but I started running my bicycle in stead running on the ground with my feet.

+++ DURING MY SURGERY, NOW, WAS… +++
‘Cause had bon/nerve inside my back, 25 years ago, and was broken inside or moved to the wrong side. He had to “clean-up” my lower back than before. 25 years ago, that doctor gave me “1” back-to-back, bone-to-bone pieces between “glueing “ them. The newer doctor added 5-6 back-to-back, bone-to-bone pieces.

+++ DID I ADDED… +++
I added great, better places inside my lower body. The pain was gone, instinctually! What added getting back when going to bathrooms, but not dropping when peeing or just waiting to go to the bathroom. That long, big nerve has out back to it was. That’s good stuff.

Thx,
Greg D. @greg1956

PS: using the ‘normal” people can understand of what you’ve written. I’m not there, so I do the best way I can and some of that folks like you, would know I’ve got “problems” on my brain

Hello, @bettyg81pain ,
When I started taking prescription pain medication about 3 years ago, I was prescribed Gabapentin. I don't remember the dosage but after 2 days I was so depressed that when I called my doctor, I was told to immediately discontinue its use. As an alternative I was prescribed Lyrica (Pregabalin) 100 mg. 3 x day along with Tramadol 50 mg. 3x a day, which I have continued to this day. The only side effect I have experienced is some lightheadedness in the morning if I don't eat something.
It does take care of my foot pain, thankfully ~ but I still have numbing and my sense of balance has never been restored. I'm so grateful for this combination of meds. and for my pain doctor.
