Osteoporosis & Letrozole or AI’s

I asked my oncologist how long does it take osteoporosis to start once taking Letrozole? He said a couple years. However they want me to try to stay on Letrozole for 5 years or 10 years. Then are you supposed to be crippled in a couple years from taking Letrozile because of Osteoporosis? Age 62. Does not make sense?

I was never told that. I have the low side of osteopenia and have been on Letrozole, also known as Femara for 2.5 years.
I will wait and see other replies. Monitoring our bones as we age and with these AIs n3eedto be watched. I am 64.

You can do a Breast Cancer Index test on original specimens to see if extending letrozole past 5 years if of any benefit.

Reclast can only be taken 3-5 years so there is a mismatch here with the timing of AI's!

That is the suggested time frame for Reclast before risks of jaw necrosis and atypical femur fractures go up, according to my doctor, McCormick's book "Great Bones, " Dr. Ben Leder's YouTube video and various other sources. If letrozole is needed for 7-10, it may be worth it to continue based on DEXA scan and bone marker tests. I have no idea but your doctors can advise! I believe the risk is still low for those side effects and plenty of people being treated for cancer take even larger doses so.....
