Scar tissue and intestines

Posted by marilyncarkner @marilyncarkner, Oct 3 12:48pm

A friend has been diagnosed with scar tissue surrounding his intestines . Three surgeries have caused this issue . Extreme pain and inability to eat very much solid food .
Another surgery to rectify would only lay down more scar tissue . Also there is a vascular issue .Any suggestions or referrals would be greatly appreciated

I have the same thing... the colorectal surgeon wants me to see a Neuro GI before she decides. Anyone know what they do?

@marilyncarkner Thank you for raising this important issue. Many cancer patients (including myself) have various degrees of difficulty caused by surgery scar tissue. Such an important issue to be aware of. I look forward to seeing the responses you get.

Mine are manageable - at the moment - with diet, but I have read enough to know the complications they may cause now or in the future. And the risks involved in treating them.

Thanks so much for that informative summary

I am also a pelvic and abdominal radiation survivor with 3 previous intestinal surgeries for strictures. Since my last surgery 11 years ago, my abdomen is chock full of scar tissue and adhesions. I currently have several strictures and dilated loops in my bowels but GI doctor said no more surgery unless it's an emergency, due to likelihood of more adhesions forming. Following this post and looking forward to hearing from others.
