Oh my, that is a very dire attitude.
I have had an opposite experience. After an Urgent Care directed ER visit, the on-call cardiologist recommended a heart CT scan, which was done in 4 days, and the cardio visit was scheduled two days later. He started conservative measures to treat a blockage, ordered more tests, and is seeing me in 2 weeks. His staff has been most responsive, and he personally replied to status update he requested on Monday, within 12 hours of my message. I need surgery for another matter and he is consulting with that doc to make sure I am safe.

Not every doctor or practice is uncaring.
