A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including

Rash
Itching/swelling
Severe dizziness
Trouble breathing
Other things to note

Nausea, tiredness, flu-like symptoms , dizziness, headache, or pain/redness/swelling at the injection site may occur. Most of these side effects are mild and occur within 3 days of treatment. Flu-like symptoms may be reduced by taking acetaminophen or ibuprofen after the treatment. If any of these effects worsen or last more than 4 days, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

If the reactions are seriously aftecting someone's life, I see no harm in teporting it and letting FDA decide how important having that info is. If they keep getting reports, maybe something will be done.

@normahorn I just meant it is already listed. Reporting might can add to the frequency stats of side effects on some sites. But personally I report side effects not already known. Sure, no harm in reporting.

Not sure what "can be done." I doubt they are going to withdraw Reclast from the market. It has been around a long time.

Maybe medical schools could teach doctors to google side effects before dismissing our experiences. Again, pharmacists know more.

Thanks every one for your comments, but I don't need to know the side effects...I'm living them, and have been for a year and a half. On another thread someone had asked for the name of a doctor in the NY/Pennsylvania area, and some one sent him a name. That's what I need. Someone in the Houston area who has treated patients with these side effects.

I am also contemplating Reclast, but very concerned about side effects. I am 57 and have Osteoporosis. My diagnosis was a huge shock, as I have been an athlete my whole life, I rarely drink and do not smoke. My Nephrologist and Urologist have said it is okay to proceed with the Reclast, however, I feel like I need to try HRT and AlgaeCal before moving forward with Reclast. This forum has been beneficial to me. Thank you.

@dingus I don't live in the Houston area and I don't know how you've gone about searching for doctors for osteoporosis but if you haven't already you can try Medifind (medifind.com) and it's "Find a Doctor" option. It can't tell you whether a doctor will listen to you about Reclast but it can give some indication if they are really knowledgeable about Osteoporosis. I live in the LA area and I have used Medifind for other medical issues.

Have you tried calling the ReClast manufacturer, describing the effects you are enduring, and asking for their help in finding a solution or a doctor to help you? May not accomplish anything but worth trying. Who knows, maybe they will have useful advise.

@normahorn I have called companies and they refer me to the FDA. The specialty pharmacy that the company uses might be helpful though.

@normahorn I think that's a great idea and I might do that. I did file a complaint with MedWatch. Of course I've heard nothing back from them. It's my belief that these severe reactions will be swept under the rug until possibly a law suit is filed and it may take a class action law suit. Just my opinion of the medical field and Big Pharma at this time.

MedWatch called me for permission to call my doctor about a side effect I was having with a med, but it was an unlisted side effect so maybe that was the difference.

@lkhender There have been law suits- both class action and individual- against Reclast (and Fosamax). The ones I found concerned ONJ. I am not sure what happened but on at least one site the company prevailed.
