I have similar ongoing symptoms where i burp constantly, if sipping water , after eating , rolling over in bed , and for no obvious reason . I do not have diabetes, i do have IBS symptoms and all tests and gastroenterology have not given any answers or improvement .
Have tried all sorts of food changes . I do not have reflux as such , just wind/gas but my specialist said it is still a type of reflux . .
Trapped wind is painful in the chest as similar feeling to heart issues
I do find breathing exercises help some . I also find if i breath out and then hold my breath to swallow fluid / water it reduces the burping - but to know why , i am at a loss too and continually seek reasons . I wish i could help more . Take care .

Hello. I have similar issues. Had no idea, prior to this year, that trapped gas can be so utterly painful. I deal with a daily bloated stomach and have a large box full of tried but not continued meds. If my esophagus is really painful, I take a 20mg Pepcid. Less is more for me as I have severe reactions (side effects) to most G.I. meds.

I have had this burping , with only mild acid reflux , but no regurgitation, for about 13 years. It was burps after drinking water, fter eating , while walking, turning in bed, and just at random times.
I was diagnosed with GERD in 2019 after losing my appetite for a few days.
Gastroscopy was normal ,colonoscopy showed only diverticulosis and a stricture.
I was prescribed Prevacid fastab 30mg for initial 8 weeks and it was a massive help.
(Personally I think I had functional dyspepsia)
But I want to share two things that really helped me: Eating smaller meals! (Reduce that load on your stomach)
and I purchased a FULL length mattress wedge with a 7 inch elevation at the head. What a help!!
These two things have been a huge success.
I can sleep without burps; they are almost gone. Prevacid maybe two pills a month.
The mattress wedge I would really recommend, it cost about $150.
It takes a little bit of adjustment but for me it was a wonderful success.
Good luck
