I think things have progressed beyond numbness at night. I'm experiencing deep down aching in my calves that makes me want to shake them out and keeps me changing my sleep position all night long. My PCP has me taking 300 mg Gapapentin 3x/day. I am tempted to ask him to help me wean off to see if it's really helping. I had a short spell where I did think it improved the quality of my sleep when I first started taking it. During the day once I'm up and about I'm pretty good. Movement definitely takes my mind off the sensations.
I've added Ibuprofen thinking that it might help the pain and inflammation since I do have some arthritis. I also got a recommendation to start a Lion's Mane supplement. I'll give this regimen a chance. I have a suspicion my PCP will suggest we titrate up on the Gabapentin.
He casually referred to my night time complaints as Restless Legs. I don't know. My thought is that would be a separate issue because what I'm feeling doesn't seem to fit exactly in terms of what I've read. I guess the treatment is the same in any case.
On a positive note I am by no means incapacitated. I walk and I could probably go 5 miles if I wanted, but I would suffer afterward. I'm 72 and I work one 8 hour day on my feet and at the 6 hour mark, my legs and feet are saying "we're done," so I bring a change of shoes to finish the day. When I get home I elevate for 15 minutes.
So I guess you'd say I'm in a very manageable category but not comfortable. I'm always on the lookout for suggestions. Also, I don't think extreme heat helps me either.
